I'm kinda surprised that BBC Two used Reflective into the funeral recap or whatever, but at the same time it makes sense. I was expecting something with more of a toned-down color scheme (Dark, maybe?), but since we're reflecting on the life of Prince Phillip, it makes sense.

Presumably it was only commentary free on the red button, and there was very little commentary anyway. Or did they do the opposite and put an audio described version on. Was it signed on BBC News?

Red button was completely commentary-free. It did feel to me like the audio muffled itself as if to allow a voice over to speak, although of course without a VO. It was actually rather pleasant to just watch it without someone droning on over the top of it.

And it is not branded as 10. I remember the bulletin on the Saturday after the 2015 Paris terror attack used the 10 branding, with Huw Edwards presenting from Paris.

Meanwhile ITV uses News at Ten tonight.

BBC Weekend News is a name only used on iPlayer and the BBC Website. On EPG it’s called BBC News. But they brought in Huw and there’s a important event, I think the bulletin should be branded as the BBC News at Ten.

I don't remember that being branded as News at Ten though - was tonight's? (it kind of annoys me when they almost always brand the weekday late news as News at Ten even when it's not at ten o' clock - it once I remember was broadcast at 11pm)

7 News in Australia had Angela Rippon as a guest with their 7 News reporter at Windsor for the build up. But they actually handed over 'to our colleagues at ITV' for the service itself.

I'm assuming SBS would have done their own coverage based on the pictures sent via Eurovision? (They're the only broadcaster in Oz I know of with any affiliation to the EBU given their recent participation in the EBU's various competitions.)

I have to say the BBC did a great job of the coverage. They really are the best in the world at this sort of thing.

Outside the world feed, Huw spoke fairly sparingly and let the event do the talking. The low-key nature of the event really hit home for me, as I've not lost anyone during the past 13 months, so it was my first glimpse of a Lockdown Funeral.

It was a poignant reminder that Prince or Pauper, the virus doesn't discriminate, and even our Queen had to sit alone at her husband's funeral to ensure her safety. The power of how "universal" this virus is really cut through in the coverage, and certainly hit me harder than even Boris catching it.

Bit O/T I know but that was my takeaway from the day.

I think it's just a matter of consistency... If a national bulletin does not start at the TOTH, it will use the generic "BBC News" brand instead. Just like the weekdays where occasionally the News at Ten will use the generic branding if delayed due to stuff like overtime football coverage on BBC One. Since tonight's bulletin doesn't start at the top of 10PM (as always on Saturday), it uses the generic "BBC News" brand.

It has been interesting to read the comments on the threads regarding the coverage of the events around the Duke’s funeral from a viewer’s perspective.
For those of us on site at Windsor it has been a major undertaking at short notice, and that brings the usual issues of availability of staff, trucks and equipment. It was lovely to be working alongside so many former BBC colleagues who are now spread across the industry whether at NEP, Arena, CTV, Telegenic, Timeline, The Sound Alliance (and others) or freelancing for those companies, as well as many other highly regarded broadcast crews.
The technical challenges are huge, and this was not at all helped by the current pandemic. The plans that had been worked on for decades had been modified, but still up until the day changes occurred. The logistical problems of working on a site like Windsor Castle cannot be under-estimated. Access to places that you need to get to may or may not be possible at any given time, and when you are fault finding that makes it difficult.
All the staff at the castle, including the policemen who sometimes have to say that you now cannot go through an area that an hour ago was possible to use, are friendly and helpful. You have to be aware of the high security requirements and that you are working in the home of a family in mourning.
Technically the programmes went out without any issues that we are aware of, and once the de-rig is over I will watch the content to see how it looked. At the time it is very much keeping a close eye on everything – even things that couldn’t be foreseen, such as the exterior shot of the public side of the castle, which was being mains powered from over the road, failing when parts of Windsor High Street had intermittent power cuts. That required a large battery to quickly be sent out to site. Would the float charging provide more power than the camera and link were taking? We had to monitor that and so many other things too.
In our working lives there are not many of these events that have such an historical resonance, and to be involved was a honour. It’s also why many of us work in broadcasting, to bring these moments to the public, and generate material that will be seen by the generations who follow after we are gone.

By the way, one of the earlier questions here was whether the BBC Studio had windows or a giant TV screen.
I would ask this.
You have built a studio in the grounds of Windsor Castle, is the easier option
a) to transport a giant TV screen to site, fit it, power it, feed it with a known signal generated with a separate camera, and be mindful of any technical issues that may look odd on air, as well as meaning that the studio might as well be anywhere in the world.
or
b) fit a window.

Anyone answering a), please explain your reasoning, as I will be fascinated to hear how your brain works.

The evening bulletin used the normal titles, the late bulletin was branded News at Ten, so used the News at Ten titles.
