Ian Payne is with LBC, I think he is on LBC News at times during the week, but does early morning shows at the weekend on LBC. He has also filled in for other presenters when they are away. He started off doing sports programmes for them, but those seem to have stopped as first the main station and then LBC News have become national, and I assume that impacted on the rights.
He was at Sky Sports for a quite a while - 7 years by my calculation, albeit not as long on the live football.
Ian Payne was also on ITV News, as a sports reporter, and who remembers Primetime, with their midweek take on Soccer special? He presented that as well!

Yes, he joined in 2003 as number two to Richard Keys and did all Saturday and Monday Premier League matches for the first two seasons. Sadly he was never as comfortable on TV as he was on the radio, but he also suffered when Jeff Stelling almost left for ITV in 2005, as to keep hold of him Sky offered him an improved contract, including live Premier League games, so he pretty much replaced Payne, who moved to do just the cups and then stopped doing live football altogether and spent the next few years on Sky Sports News.
It was a bit of a shame because he was an excellent presenter on 5 Live, and he went from being a great host on the radio to a pretty average TV presenter. It was a bit of a surprise as before he joined Sky his TV career had pretty much consisted of doing the sport on the news. But as you say, he stayed at Sky for several years, so unless they gave him a ten-year contract they must have renewed it at some point.
I would have listened to him on the day Gary Speed died, I remember it vividly. This was before I lived in London but I'd actually been to London that weekend and was on my way home, and when I turned on the radio to listen to the football they were talking about Speed and I eventually worked out they were doing it in the past tense and that he'd died, and I thought "Oh God, it must be a car crash or something", and then my sister texted me to say "Have you heard Gary Speed has killed himself?". I'd actually recorded that episode of Football Focus, but I deleted it as soon as I got home.

Just hope they're not an indication of what is to come with a sport wide revamp - I'm assuming not as they are so bad.

I know this is slightly off topic but I remember watching that Football Focus that Saturday and Speed & McAllister on it and him coming across really well and seeing how Wales were progressing at the time under him. At the time I didn't have Sky Sports so on Sunday I would have put on BBC Radio 5 Live or Talksport in the background to hear the Sunday football and watch MOTD2 at night and I remember feeling numb when it was announced he had died. I didn't know the man or follow a team he played for but it really hit me hard. Goes to show anyone can have mental health problems and hopefully his death has helped others to go out and look for help.

It came about via social media [Twitter] that the company who created the graphics have NEVER had any involvement with snooker whatsoever. It would be typical of the BBC to "make a cost cut" to their coverage, while simultaneously claiming to "modernise" by finding a completely random company to create new graphics who has no previous involvement to snooker. [The company is called MOOV]
I think some of the people involved in the production have been watching social media and are fully aware of all the faults. On the opening broadcast, the black bar was fully opaque: its now very transparent [although it shouldn't even be there in the first place]. Some rather "shitty" lift music was used in mid session intervals on the online/red button feeds, this has reverted to the traditional music [though its only the credits sequence version, not the loopable version].
I agree: this isn't going to last the tournament, or if it does, it will revert when they reconvene for the Masters in mid-January. I really hope that they've reverted it as of today, now that its not the weekend and perhaps they'll be able to fully get things back more in line with the standard production style used by everyone else]. As for covering up the table, it would only be covering up the table name on the overhead camera, but its certainly less noticeable on all the other camera feeds.
Worth noting too that, when a clip from the snooker was used on Sportsday on the News Channel, the new graphics fit perfectly with the BBC News Channels' ticker graphics. Which is not a good look.

The only logic is it was designed to mask the additional clutter WST have added to tournaments this year only for them to be provided with a clean feed anyway.

I wouldn't call MOOV a "completely random company", they're very well established in sports television graphics.

That may be the case, but in the context of snooker, they are random as I've never heard of them whatsoever: not even in any other snooker broadcast by ITV, Eurosport or FreeSports (matchroom feed). In fact in their own tweet, they even admitted its "their first time being involved in snooker at all". Wasn't trying to cause any offence by calling them "random", but as snooker is one of the few sports I follow regularly [alongside F1], its relatively easy to spot when a new company who hasn't been involved in the sport makes the graphics for said sport.
The URC has changed its schedule for Round 7 so that two South African derbies will replace the games that would previously have been played:
Sharks v Blue Bulls (Friday 5pm)
Stormers v Golden Lions (Saturday 3pm)
Both on Premier Sports.
Two European teams (Munster and Cardiff) remain in SA.

Cardiff v Toulouse is supposed to be the free to air match the following week in the European Cup but seems highly unlikely that will be played now. Chances are even after quarantining in South Africa for 10 days Cardiff (and Munster) will probably have to do so again upon their return.

And by the 25th minute the BBC graphics are back and replays are being shown too. Good shout they were just changing feeds.
