Newsreader I've not come across before today - Marverine Cole.

Marverine used to be a face of the Midlands appearing on Midlands Today and Central News. She hasn't been seen for years however, but it does seem she's been up to allsorts on Channel 5 News and QVC to name just a few.

You wouldn’t think they’d necessarily be short staffed newsreader rise as there were plenty of correspondents on this morning who could have filled in, or you’d get someone from ITV News, so seems like a conscious decision.

I don’t think it helps staffing wise that for at least the last few years, Charlotte doesn’t read the news whilst Ranvir presents and vice versa. It seems a slightly strange arrangement as both will do extra days reading the news if Ben/Susanna/Kate are presenting, but not each other. I’m not really sure who is considered the senior relief presenter of the two these days.

Marverine Cole used to be a semi regular face on the overnight shift at Sky News at one point too, probably about 15 years ago now.

No. He did it in September 2020 and in august 2021 one morning

I’ve seen him doing it on location in the past. Is this his first time in the studio?

I'm surprised GMB doesn't use other regional weather presenters to cover Laura. The likes of Sally Williams or Chris Page would fit quite well on GMB.

I’m disappointed that Becky Mantin hasn’t returned since covering Laura’s maternity leave a few years ago. I thought she was perfect for the programme.
