I get the impression that Radio 5 Live had started doing its own coverage with Adrian Chiles which then crashed into the all-network programme. Some of the local stations (eg Newcastle) made a bit of a mess of it, taking a bit of the Chiles coverage, others faded out music and went to the all-network programme, other (eg Leeds) managed to get a suitable announcement in.
Write that down in your copybook now

I'm not entirely criticising the media, but I'd have thought there'd have been an embargo and they'd all announce the news at the same time.
However, it all seemed a bit of a surprise to broadcasters. I got a phone notification from Sky News, at which point I switched to LBC News and they were going as normal, and BBC Radio 2 was doing the same. At that point I ended up going between the two until one of them started coverage (LBC News). Even after that, it took ages to receive notifications from LBC, BBC, and The Guardian. I'd have thought it'd be more instantaneous.

One channel that did handle it terribly was Fox News. Decided to somehow drag Meghan Markle into it.

The fractured approach and starting at noon as normal seems like a reaction rather than preplanned.
