I am guessing the bbc have very nice air conditioned studios and galleries they seem to have all stayed on air despite the heatwave.

I know most air conditioned buildings in the UK aren't specced for such high outside temperatures, and don't chill as well as they should. In a broadcast facility you need to prioritise the apparatus rooms (in case any of your kit overheats and fails), even if it means letting your staff sweat.
