Hmmm well I dont know about that one. They actually arent that low to the ground. And depending on the optical lens zoom they dont have to be that close, they can be miles away. Maybe they have older cameras and equipment on those choppers. BUt again its seems that the choppers are always moving in circular patterns for everystory.

Thanks Mouseboy. I'm fully aware of how they generally fly. I was also a special constable for a time and flew in a police helicopter and know that they do have to fly low on occasion, especially if they're close to an airport or a restricted flight zone.

Cool! How did that go? Maybe you can give us some more insight. Because if blowing the smoke is the case, they must have been in a highly restricted area . GOod to know we have a chopper pilot that can answer questions on here.

The new LIVE shots they have settled down a bit and they are miles away and higher up from the emergency services helicopter which just passed underneath them live on air. This is typically what you seen in the US the media choppers will fly at a higher altitude than the emergency services choppers which are usually lower down to the ground.

These images are devastating and scary for the residents but it goes to show how dangerous the conditions are and that people need to be careful about starting fires.
