I think you’re right there. In broadcasting generally over the past couple of decades, the direction has very much been away from regional and local variations in programming and presentation, and towards centralised and national services, based on the premise that differences in viewing and listening tastes across the country aren’t significant enough to make spitting everything worthwhile.
So I wonder what it is the BBC knows about the differences in geographical tastes that the likes of ITV, Channel 5, Global and Bauer didn’t know when they decided local and regional splits weren’t worth doing.
