Surely the ministers should be referred to by the titles they have in the country they represent. I wouldn’t expect the American ‘law maker’ who deals with finance to be referred as the ‘US Chancellor’ so it shouldn’t happen the other way

I understand to a degree, but most other countries don't have a significant chunk of cabinet positions that have ridiculous antiquated names. With international news broadcasting, you want to be using terms that will be understood by as much of your audience as possible. Something like Chancellor of the Exchequer is not immediately understandable if you aren't familiar with British politics, nor is it intuitive. You can have the hybrid system of "...the Chancellor the Exchquer, that's the British finance minister,..." but it is a bit clunky and can come off as patronising.
