The only real precedent for this sort of crisis is Maggie in 1990. Of course on that day, both the BBC and ITN went into rolling news mode; IIRC Thatcher resigned on a Thursday and at the time PMQs was a twice weekly affair, so the networks took the coverage.
The football will switch to BBC Two at 10pm to allow the Ten to start on time.
The logical option if something kicks off is to do a newsflash at half time and signpost to the NC.
I personally don't think we'll see a resignation until the morning, however.
