But linear TV has to fill hours and sadly there is a distinct lack of original ideas when it comes to light entertainment at the moment, both domestically and in the international formats market which has only really seen The Masked Singer emerge in recent years.
Nobody is denying the last few years of X Factor weren't problematic but when you look back in hindsight it was much stronger for longer than you think - it only really absolutely collapsed in the last couple of years and that was arguably down to on screen changes rather than the overall concept.
