There are numerous factors in play here with Global acquiring high profile talent.
The most obvious one is pay and the publishing of high earning talent fees. If you can earn more at a commercial broadcaster without having your salary or show fee published and given more freedom, then it's an incentive to leave.
LBC under Global in the last 11 years has become a challenger brand to Radio 4 and 5 Live, their election coverage for example was on a par with BBC radio coverage, while LBC News has become a credible alternative to rolling news tv coverage.
Global also clearly understand where the future is for credible news and that is to invest heavily in talent, production and video content. it's become more than just an exercise in attracting political figures to the workings of the company. The website may be tabloid in nature, but that doesn't mean what comes out of the speaker is though. LBC Radio Ltd became revenue earning in 2020/21, so is less reliant on their music brands which will eventually lose listeners, especially to their younger focused brands which will see losses to music streaming providers, so speech is key to the future of their broadcasting business.
