It is poor, but, to be fair, not an issue specific to the BBC. Finding a Westminster-based political journalist who understands the British political system is a real challenge. They might be good on the ins-and-outs of the Westminster soap opera, but most wouldn't know where to start if you asked them to explain the basics of devolution, proportional representation or - heaven forbid - the Northern Irish political institutions. And don't get me started on the quality of their election analysis.
