One day such things won't be worthy of note, but we haven't got there yet. And until we do, noting and celebrating such things is part of the process to get to the point where they are no longer noteworthy. It'll mean a lot to some people, and I don't see any reason to admonish them for expressing that.

I do think it's a pity that, for so many people, everything now boils down to immutable characteristics.

I am happy for the chap who got the part, personally. Couldn't give a shit what colour his skin is, who he sleeps with, and so on and so on. Hope he plays an absolute blinder. Go on, Ncuti :-)
