BBC Radio pres: October 2021 onwards

Yes that's an odd comment because it's never ever been officially called "Radio 6". For the first five years the official name was BBC 6 Music, they only added "Radio" to 6 and 7 in 2007 when they introduced the uniform station logos.

Initially it was called ‘6 Music from the BBC’ on air.

The stranger one was perhaps BBC7, which sounded like a TV channel, but was a radio station (now BBC Radio 4 Extra’).

I'd forgotten about that but I do remember "1Xtra from the BBC".

I assume there was some strategic decision around not using the word "radio" in the then-new digital only stations.
