Huws at Ten - but for how much longer?

I've just never warmed to Sophie at all and think she'd be a rather weak replacement IMO - she'd be quite a way down the pecking order for me, but is undoubtedly his number two in the eyes of the BBC at the moment.

If he does go I expect him to remain at the BBC rather than go elsewhere in a Dimbleby style role which he has been gravitating towards in recent years anyway, covering the elections, royal and parliamentary events and probably still involved with the biggest news stories, with perhaps a smaller regular role - perhaps a semi-regular interview show in the style of what they were planning for Andrew Neil.

I'd agree with this. Tbh I'm not hugely surprised at his hint of leaving the Ten soon - he's only been presenting the Ten part-time for the last few years anyway, doing 2 or 3 nights maximum a week. The days of Huw doing Monday - Thursday and Fiona/Sophie on Fridays ended a long time ago.

I also can't see him leaving the BBC entirely. He's obviously filled Dimbleby's shoes in being the go to presenter big news stories, as we saw with him being rushed in to present coverage in the initial few hours of Prince Philip's death, and Huw is obviously now (finally) the BBC's main election coverage anchor.
Also in the last 10-15 years Huw has done extensive work for BBC Wales - he made 'The Story of Wales' documentary series in 2012 and presented a weekly Welsh politics show until 2016 before it was replaced due to cuts. I can see him doing more of this, either for BBC Wales or on a UK level, as you said, maybe an Andrew Neil style political interview show as well.

After almost 20 years of getting home at midnight/1am, why wouldn't you want a change? I'll be sad to see Huw step down but I'm sure he'll still be on screens in some way or another.
