Speaking of which, I assume ITV News will be covering the local elections as well as the BBC, right through the night?

Doubt it, I don't recall ITV ever bothering with a local election night programme. STV and ITV Wales will probably have results programmes for the devolved elections, but I would be surprised if ITN are producing a national programme. Typically only the BBC and Sky bother.

I wonder if they'll announce the winner as early as Friday evening if it looks like a landslide victory for Sadiq Khan? They've never had someone win the London Mayoral Election purely on first preferences but I suspect this year might be it.

The London Elects website says they intend to start counting at 0800 on Friday 7th May with the intention of announcing that evening. London has the advantage of counting electronically which, while in the past has caused delays, I expect will be handy this year. Wouldn't be surprised if you are right about the result.

Do we know if all English councils and mayor elections are holding off vote counting until the late morning of the 7th or are we going to get some results very late into the 6th or very early into the 7th? I know Wales and Scotland are holding off their votes until the later morning of the 7th?

The Electoral Commission guidance for counting in these elections does not specify any delay, but does says that ROs (Returning Officers) should be aware that the media will expect the results as soon as feasible, so should announce if they are planning to delay. Ultimately, as these are council elections with literally hundreds of ROs, I would not be surprised if some councils do overnight counting and others don't.

I like the new interview/coffee lounge used by correspondents to interview guests. The backround colour is more blue than teal which i much prefer.

Presenting the news outdoors will give ITV News the chance to test and install a new studio design if they are thinking of bringing in a new look to their current presentation, which has been used since January 2013, and that is a very long time for ITV News to use a set of presentation. 8 years is a long time without a refresh to the set, music etc.
