I didn't realise the cartoons were played in from elsewhere, epecially as I recall them usually being mixed in and out with effects, and the credits shrunk down etc. which gave me the impression they were run in via the studio. But maybe that wasn't the case/

What they would do is run the cartoons from VT (because, in those days, you had to), bring up the VT machine as a source from TC7, do whatever transition you wanted into it, but then once it started NC1 would change the on air source from TC7 to the correct VT machine. So when I've seen "official" recordings of Going Live et al, what you tend to see during the cartoons is the first and last couple of minutes but in between lots of rehearsals and cameras lining up preparing for the next bit.

Blankety Blank was helped in 1979 by the ITV strike, that through September and most of October 1979 they pulled in audiences of over 20 million, as ITV remained off air until October 24th.

Even when ITV returned, people did not rush back, as they had a lot of repeats and imports to fill schedules until new shows were made.

Isn't it at a higher bitrate? It could be my imagination but the TOTP repeats have looked ever so slightly worse since having to watch in SD.

Regarding Michael Grade’s doc that has just been on. What is sad is that since it was made, half the contributors such as Brucie have died

I was under the impression the Gen Game was going to be from the original run, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was the 90s revival. Just feels more contemporary, and personally, I have a real soft spot for the music.

Interesting how strictly the Beeb and OTV were about exclusivity as recently as the late 90s- Ant and Dec segment really got you thinking. Whereas nowadays someone being on ITV on Saturday morning and BBC on Saturday night, nobody would bat an eyelid.
