Farewell...

In all seriousness it's sad to see the forum go. It's even sadder to see Rob being relentlessly bullied. Good luck on your future endeavors.

What shocks me even more is this: I had no idea Rob was attacked harshly like this (and what even went on), and I feel sorry for what he's had to go through.
Everyone's favourite BBC fanatic-of-sorts, making columns blow up since April 2020
Rob, i’m really sorry to hear the forum is closing and those who have repeatedly sent you abuse should indeed be ashamed of themselves. I agree with those who have said your mental health matters more than a forum website. No community is worth more [owning and administrating ] than someone’s mental wellbeing.

If anyone chooses to make a new forum, i would join it as well. I enjoy talking and reading about TV presentation. If no one wants to make a new forum, I’d be happy ro create a Discord server as a replacement of the forum, but I am cognizant that I am not very well known in the community compared to many others here.

Thanks for all you’ve done Rob and its a shame that it is having to end this way Sad
I don't post much on here but have read so many interesting articles from the insiders on here, the BBC and TV in general.  Love how some of the technical people chat about opting out, soft opting and all the weird and wonderful things that are done in the background to bring us the programmes we see on our TV's everyday.

To Rob, this is very depressing that people were trying to bully you on your own forum!

This seems to be the way of the world now, no one thinks but everyone speaks.  They do not care who they hurt as the person they are directing the poison at will never meet in real life and yet that person is real, very much real.

Thanks to all the decent people on here who have been a joy!

To Rob, God Bless you

Regards

Just for confirmation, my new forum will be launching later today and over the next month before TVLF closes down, the site will be improved.
It currently runs off Wix Forum Software but I hope to move it onto another forum software soon.

I created this forum purely to continue the conversation from TV Forum, and I'm proud that I did it. However, I have felt more and more miserable as time has gone on, and my mental health has suffered as a result.

I knew I had big shoes to fill, TV Forum was a great website, and I was proud to be a part of it. I took the responsibility of running this site seriously, and every decision I made was, in my view, the right one. I made a few mistakes, and did things that were unpopular, but at the end of the day, I learned from the experience.

However, sadly, the continuing abuse that I've been receiving from certain people has resulted in my general mental health plummeting to the floor. I took a couple of weeks away from the forum recently to refresh my head, and seek counselling to address my mental health issues. The only way that I'm going to resolve my issues is to cut the forum out of my life, and that is what I intend to do.

The forum will close on August 31st at 6pm. This will give somebody enough time to set up a replacement forum if they so wish. I will support any legitimate effort at creating a new forum. If any new forum wishes to take on the posts and topics from here, they're more than welcome to, however I am willing to keep this site online as an archive.

I want to thank my moderators: David, Ben, Matt and James have been fantastic with keeping the forum going over its short life. I want to thank Pete from Metropol for being a "consultant" on all things forum related. His help has been very useful, and I'm grateful for his support.

Also, a big thank you to every single current member of the site for being a part of the community. I'm desperately sorry that it has had to end so soon, but I know in my heart that I'm doing the right thing.

The main TV Live website will continue, as will my new site On The Telly, and I will be focusing much more on my radio show as well as my work. I'm not going anywhere...

To those of you who have continued to criticise me, I simply want to say this... you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves. Because of your words, you are depriving people of a place to discuss television presentation, and robbing me of a site that I've been really proud to work on. Karma is a wonderful thing, and I just hope that one day you look back on what you've said about me and feel really bad about what you've done.

Thank you, and don't forget to switch off your sets...

This forum was good for info, sad about the hate....

It uses MyBB which is free software with a variety of plugins available. I've had personal experience with the software over the years and it does the job well.

The only question would be if Rob paid for any themes or plugins, and if the successor would have to pay for those again.
I'm very sorry to hear this, but hope I this decision allows you to turn a new page and move on from what must have been a very unpleasant experience. It is a shame how a small minority can ruin something for everyone else, and I hope that maybe one day they will grow up enough to realise that getting kicks out of making people miserable is a pathetic way to live one's life.

Thanks for all the work you put into the forum, and I'm sure everyone here would agree that you can leave with your head held high, safe in the knowledge that you created and maintained a place that fostered (for the most part) great ideas and a high standard of discussion.
I’m sorry that this site will be closing, thank you so much for creating this place for us to continue discussion Rob and for all of your and the moderators work on the site.

Most importantly you need to do what it right for you and I’m glad that you have made this decision for your own mental health.

Finally nobody deserves to be abused whether online or in person, especially somebody who has devoted so much time creating a welcoming place for others.
I can fully see the reason why the forum is closing - and I would like to thank everybody involved in this truly brilliant forum.

I'll continue to support TV Live and On The Telly in the future, and I wish Rob the best of luck!
Good to see people stepping up and offering alternatives, I do fear we splinter the community here, It would be best to have just one replacement ideally?
Rob, you are a legend! Thanks for bringing us TV Live Forum and I’m sorry to hear about the abuse that has been aimed at you - nobody should ever have to deal with that for doing good. We’ll miss this forum, but your health matters far more! All the very best!

and inform me as well please?
I second everyone's comments and will be very sorry to see this place go. I am even more sorry that you have had to suffer this abuse Rob, and want to say that I know all of us appreciate you creating this site and giving us the platform to continue our special little discussions. All the best and thank you!
Well, here it is. My new forum TV Talk.
If member don't mind for now just starting discussion anywhere, so I can test everything out before the proper launch when TVLF closes. As I have also previously mentioned, the site currently runs off Wix but I hope soon to be able to move it onto a proper forum software.
NOTE: Accounts must be created to be able to post on the forum.

Yes - when we jumped from TV Forum to TV Live Forum, TVLF was pretty much the only major attempt at replacing the forum and it was clearly signposted. I do think we need to somehow arrive at a place where there's just one agreed successor, otherwise we risk fragmenting the user base.

Rob, I'm really sorry to hear about the personal problems running this forum has caused/contributed to. I'm grateful for your hard work and I hope you feel a lot better without the burden of running this place. Onwards and upwards!
