It's a very interesting idea and has got quite a lot of good clips, but one can't also help but feel that it is a little underwhelming and inconsistent. Obviously as a legacy of the original Northern Irish project, Northern Ireland is very comprehensively covered with a lot of major news stories as well as more local, light-hearted stories. But for other parts of the country it just feels a bit thin. I looked up my two home towns - which are both on the larger side of township - and there were only two clips for each. Now obviously I understand that they need to get content for as much of the country as possible, but, as I imagine most people will only be particularly interested in their home town, it just doesn't feel enough in a way.

There also seems to be an absence of major news stories that just seems a little odd. I could understand if it was a purely local news archive, but there is quite a bit from national news (and even a few clips for Newsnight) - just not for big stories. It feels like a missed opportunity as an archive of news bulletins from big news days would be quite an interesting resource. Plus a lot of these bulletins have been already been digitised as part of the related schools project (as well as for Box of Broadcasts).

Apologies, I don't want to be too down on the project, especially as it will have required so much effort. Just hope more can be added.

PS: It is bugging me that the third block of the BBC logo across the entire site is missing about 20%.

Yes there could be a lot more, hopefully more will be added over time. I've just noticed that it automatically hides videos that have guidance for violence, language etc, they can be included by adding them in settings

It would but that's unlikely to happen. The items on Rewind will be purely BBC filmed material which they of course own, the national news bulletins will have more third party material that's a bit of a minefield to reuse or edit out. 

They're also all human interest stories - some more serious news stories are problematic to repeat - there are potential legal and privacy issues with old news stories and the effort needed to research the background of every even slightly contentious news story makes it not worth it



I'm not sure if this is new but I notice that the site also includes the BBC Reminiscence Archive which is a resource primarily for dementia patients by triggering their long term memory

Interesting website! Though searching for Hull is a bit tricky - there's over 160 results, but only about half are actually local stories. A lot is Northern Ireland content, because of someone whose last name was Hull being a prominent trade union leader in the 1970s.

I suppose that's where the map view comes in useful, although some places with videos aren't visble until you zoom in a bit first
