A lot of the comments on that article are complaining that iPlayer isn't free like the article claims because of the license fee. 

I think the anti-licence fee campaigners deliberately search out these sorts of articles to leave these sorts of comments. And make it seem like more people feel that way about the BBC than actually do.

I'm not anti-BBC but I do think it's perfectly valid to call out claims that iPlayer is free as bogus, especially when they actively warn users that they must have a license in order to use it and enforce action against people who ignore the warnings.

ITV Hub, All4, My5, STV Player, UKTV Play etc are genuinely free.

Well they're not because you have to pay for your broadband to watch them. And for the television and electricity too. Plus the sofa and the house too.

I think that’s a little reductionist though. There’s a direct fee for watching iPlayer, there isn’t for the others mentioned.

It's not wholly untrue. Not only do you have to pay a license fee, you then have to pay for broadband.

The BBC do not require that you pay for broadband to access iPlayer. They also do not require that you fit an aerial or satellite to receive broadcast transmissions.

They do require that you have a valid license tho.
