The PM implied (but then backtracked a bit) that he could trigger an election so the broadcasters will have the prepare for that possibility. An election running through August would bring some challenges - No Sunday morning political show on BBC1 for one.

I doubt there will be an election - he does have the power to request one, but the Queen does have the power to refuse according to the Lascelles Principles - but if one were called I would suspect that Sunday Morning and politics programming would continue throughout the campaign or the launch of Kuennesberg's new show would be brought forwards.

I think the threat is if he goes they all go but a snap election is nothing new for broadcasters, though just like the candidates broadcasters and reporters won't be too enthused by the idea of sacrificing their summer hols for one.

Have foreign news services been paying much attention to all this over the last 24 hours, or is who leads Britain nowadays seen as somewhat of an insignificance. After all such events elsewhere in Europe usually end up as little more than a footnote for us.

Had it not been for Wimbledon I'm sure the 3pm grilling would have got a slot on BBC1 or BBC2.   Indeed short sighted perhaps of ITV or especially C4 not to capitalise on the BBC being tied up by doing something themselves.

Indeed did C4 do anything more than a 5 minute summary at lunchtime?
