The BBC's broadcast centre will be in Centenary Square, in front of the Symphony Hall, Rep Theatre and Library of Birmingham, and will incorporate the official merchandise "megastore". There has been a little bit of grumbling about it taking over open space in the city centre when there is empty land where the council's House of Sport was recently knocked down just over the road.
Walked past this yesterday in Centenary Square. I have no idea what the studio will look like but they the construction looks like it will have windows facing the library. The rest of the building is being cladded with metal walls and this looks more of a balcony. Back up there in a few days so will take a few pics.
I kind of hope they don't take up 2 weeks of BBC1 like they did during Glasgow 2014.
The Commonwealths are watchable but not worthy of the same ability to clear schedules as the Olympics.

They will undoubtedly be primarily on BBC1 and although it may not be the Olympics and the CGs have IMO gone down in merit even since Glasgow 2014 as a home games in the middle of summer it's absolutely warranted and saving a week and a half of primetime programming on BBC1 makes financial sense too.

Of course the BBC will devote as much time as they can and they'll be happy to given their current programming slate.

The Commonwealth games tended to rate quite low in the evenings in 2014 so I don’t think we will be seeing notably high figures.

Solid line up as it usually the case - would have liked Sam Quek to have been involved though as for me she was the breakout star of the Tokyo Olympics.
I guess BBC3 is just evening coverage and not being expanded for the games.

It will be nice to have the 11 additional streams after just the one for recent Olympics.

It'll be nice to see Jason Mohammad out of the 'best of the rest' slot for the first time in a good few years.
But other than that, pretty much the line-up I was expecting with Clare, Hazel, Gabby, Jason and JJ and then some fresher faces - I'd already written off Sam Quek being involved given that she has only recently returned to Morning Live after having her second baby a few months ago.
Couldn't find anything in the press pack on the ceremonies - presumably it'll be Hazel commentating with Andrew Cotter with like with the last few Summer Olympics, or maybe they'll dust off Huw Edwards for the first time since Glasgow though I feel like that's unlikely

Worth noting the Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 7pm-10.30pm, so an earlier start than London, Glasgow and Manchester who all waited until 9pm so the ceremonies ended in darkness. Not sure if that will help or hinder ratings.
