Launch TalkTV

Given how much they’ve thrown at this, I’m surprised that or similar hasn’t happened.
If it is a route they're thinking about trying then there's the hurdle that the local channels already have deals for their airtime, mostly it seems with CBS.

Alll they'd get is a better EPG number in some parts of the country, which I don't think would make much of a difference. The other news channels don't seem to have an issue being found despite being in the same number range, and DTT is just one platform.

The lack of lead-in is part of the problem, but when it comes down to it it's the programme at fault. If it's an interesting programme that people want to watch then they'll watch it. There are daily current affairs programmes online that get hundreds of thousands of views a day, they have no programming lead-in and are in an EPG amongst thousamds of rivals..... including Piers Morgan

It's just got to be something people want to watch
I saw a TV ad for Piers' show on Channel 5 earlier today. The fact he says "Come and find me on Talk TV" seems a slight acknowledgement the viewers aren't there right now.

The rest of the ad is the usual bluster about "fights", "knockouts" and "killer blows". The show didn't really look that appealing, but I'm aware I've already made up my mind about it...
Or is he blocking people, because he knows they’ll post a screenshot showing that he’s blocked them?

Also that Sky News Australia logo looks a bit odd in his profile picture. Are they about to rebrand away from their current look. Or is it something to do with Sky UK not being happy with their branding appearing on a promotion for another UK broadcaster, or is it not confused UK viewers? Having said that, the Fox Nation one doesn’t work too well on that background either.
James Whale is covering Daisy McAndrew’s slot tonight. They seemed to have sorted out the audio quality of his link.

For the past few weeks, there have also been adverts in the Radio Times and other magazines with screengrabs and quotes from the show, highlighting the "outspoken" opinions. Of course, all the "outspoken" opinions are the most predictable and boring ones you can have, as already said by a million people on social media.

Interestingly the screengrabs have the clock on them, so they've been taken straight off the telly rather than a clean feed. In the first week one of them was clearly taken from the repeat as the clock said 23.45.
Huge push going on now for Piers’ show: ads now running on various channels including ITV (obviously due to the rules around these things they’re not allowed to say when the show is on etc). Last ditch attempt to save the channel?

Probably more an attempt to improve ratings to help satisfy Piers' ego. He can then claim "xx% increase in viewers over the past month", and ignoring how much they'd previously plummeted by in true journalistic form.

There were ads on ITV when it launched so not sure if it’s a new push or just part of the original.

Yeah I wonder if this was a pre-planned next marketing push? The material or message doesn’t seem to have changed that much, so not quite a panic campaign..
Yes, it's quite the norm to give something a few weeks before you give it a big marketing push.

Obviously they won't due to the international airings but I wonder if branding the show "Piers at 8" would get around the time restrictions. TBH quite surprised those are still in place given how much more significant rules have been scrapped in recent years.

I never ever understood why a man like Rupert Murdoch would have thought launching Talk TV would be a success.

You can say what you like about Murdoch, but he used to have a very clear and well tuned feel for launching channels.

Surely he should have looked at GB News and realised launching another right wing leaning news channel would be wrong?

It seems he has lost his Midas touch with news channels, as Talk TV seems to be just as bad ratings wise as GB News, or possibly GB News is doing slightly better?

Perhaps he did. Perhaps thats why the earliest plans were shelved but once he saw how GB News was going perhaps he felt he had no choice but to launch - especially given a lot of the hosts came from Talk Radio.

Maybe nobody ever really expects talkTV to work and are waiting for a merger with GB News or something similar. After all the TV station is really a radio station for most of the day.

He probably didn't have much to do with it, he's Chairman of the parent company but whether how hands-on he is at News UK I don't know.

Worth remembering that Rebekah Brooks, CEO of News UK did shelve their original TV plans because they were deemed to be not 'economically viable'. Some of the key hires for that first incarnation were laid off as there was nothing to work on.

Whether GB News was the reason why the venture was axed and/or reinstated only they will know
