Result will be at 9pm tonight in case you wonder how that will influence what is done with BBC One tonight.

Major I don't recall but Thatcher's was a leadership challenge rather than a confidence vote.  Thatcher got the largest share of the vote but did not pass the threshold to avoid the need for a second ballot.  Consequently she decided not to stand in that ballot, which Major effectively won; although he was officially two votes short of the threshold for a third round, Heseltine & Hurd withdrew making him the new PM.

Major was also a leadership election (called by Major himself to end the speculation), covered on BBC One with a special programme presented by David Dimbleby.

I'm not entirely sure how the BBC covered the Thatcher/Heseltine challenge - I think it was a programme with Peter Sissons, as the most famous clip from it is the "She's behind you" moment of him talking to John Sergeant in Paris when Thatcher turns up. Was this a special programme or just live on the Six O'clock News?

Yeah, I posted that 2 hours ago by quoting Chris Mason. We are wondering how will influence many networks.

I doubt we'll be seeing much of any national news studio today with the media camped out on College Green.   Not sure where the result will come from - Conservative HQ I guess?

Perhaps then it would be a good time to phase it in so it's only used for the 'other news' slot at the end.

The BBC seem to be against big launches these days too!

I posted it again cause Graham Brady who runs the 1922 Committee confirmed the timings to journalists rather than getting it from a source.

Nobody decides to launch a new studio just because it's a big, unexpected, news day.   As others said relaunches usually come when the news agenda is expected to be quieter, often with a commissioned special report which isn't time sensitive.   And using a new studio for a round up of "other news" at the end of an OB isn't exactly giving it a "big launch".

Plus it's a Monday.  It feels like a long time since BBC News changed anything on a Monday.

They'd do what they said they'd do - split and go their separate ways.

Yet at 9am this morning, when both channels are usually separate, World and the NC were simulcasting, so World viewers got an hour of UK political discussion & speculation.
I hope the NC and World are separate this evening, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're not.

No of course it doesn't matter. But the thread is only just 3 pages long, doesn't take a min to get up to speed. If it were a mega thread fair enough.. To add - I'm not criticising @TMD_24 - I'm a big fan of your CNN input.  Smile

Completely forgot Love Island starts tonight on ITV2, so it's fair to say Corrie won't go in that slot. They'll more likely play it out tomorrow, possibly with a Hub drop.

The reveal isn't till 9pm so even if ITV News goes on air for it (currently not scheduled) they'll play Corrie out first anyway.

And then you might have dumpings on ITV and ITV2.

Sky News have Sophie Ridge hosting special coverage from 7-10pm. BBC News currently have an hour scheduled at 8pm on the News Channel but suspect that'll be amended. GB News have extended Farage through to 9pm.

No updates yet on the EPG for the main channels.
