So would todays huge news day be a good time to launch Studio B?

I doubt we'll be seeing much of any national news studio today with the media camped out on College Green.   Not sure where the result will come from - Conservative HQ I guess?

Looks like Victoria Derbyshire was ushered to Westminster pretty quick judging by what she's wearing. I'm guessing she was scheduled to present the 1 from the studio and had hours before make up and wardrobe.

Not confirmed but looks like the BBC is prepared to drop Garden Rescue and The Airport for a BBC News Special. Though I suspect if the results is announced at 9pm then Silent Witness is at risk as well.

I guess it may depend upon which way the vote goes, and precisely what time it's announced. If Boris wins a vote of confidence maybe a news update of a minute or two in between programmes would suffice. However if he loses the vote of confidence then a special programme would probably more suitable.

They seem to think it will be precisely 9pm. I can imagine they'll be anticipating a certain result, based on the number on MPs who are publicly tweeting their vote choice. So a decision can be made in good time ahead?

I believe that broadcasters have traditionally preferred to do news relaunches on slow news days, so, if anyting, they'd be more likely to have moved the launch date if it was today than move it to today. 

Anyway, given some of the rumours going around Westminster today, I'm sure that the BBC will be delighted at their potential impact to their rebrand schedule.

Given how virtually all government press conferences start late running from 8-9pm feels a bit pointless.  8.30-10pm probably more logical.    Silent Witness being a two parter a bit of a pain, with Sewing Bee on Wednesday too.   They could bring forward Sewing Bee to 8pm on Wednesday - never ideal to bring a show forward but the BBC often do that with late night schedule changes.  Otherwise probably bumping Who Do You Think You Are to a later date on Thursday probably the best option.

With May there was a short upsummer after the news she had survived, then they went to The Apprentice.

Major I don't recall but Thatcher's was a leadership challenge rather than a confidence vote. Thatcher got the largest share of the vote but did not pass the threshold to avoid the need for a second ballot. Consequently she decided not to stand in that ballot, which Major effectively won; although he was officially two votes short of the threshold for a third round, Heseltine & Hurd withdrew making him the new PM.

There's something vaguely comical seeing all of these presenters stood outside 10 Downing Street reporting on such an important story with all the Jubilee bunting still up in the background.
