It’s absolutely where I’d have my money on being the host if it did come to the UK.

The EBU have very firm specs these days on venue size, local hospitality provision, transport etc.  I believe Sweden have offered to host because Stockholm is twinned with Kyiv (and of course SVT and Swedish crews and executives have long had an association with the contest in its current form.  The BBC may well be asked to consider hosting but it is Ukraine’s gig at the moment and until the EBU announce otherwise everything’s up in the air.

I can see a situation like this. These are the scenarios:
1. Ukraine manages, within a year, to end the war with Russia, the country rebuilds, and they host Eurovision in Mariupol. That is an overly optimistic hope.
2. Ukraine is safe enough to host it on Western Ukraine, but the costs of that will be likely very high.

The problem is the lead time required to plan it. They're having to take a gamble of what the situation might be in May 2023 in May or September 2022.

You're absolutely right. This situation is something that Eurovision and the EBU have never dealt with before as well. Something tells me that whatever solution is picked, its going to make things quite complicated for all those invested in it.

Yes and it’s for this reason I don’t think The O2 would want to hold it. The arena’s a driver for all of the food and drink venues in the dome as well as the new half empty shopping centre and I can’t really see them being up for something that won’t have audience footfall in it for at least three weeks of their time there. Especially when they know they’ll easily be able to sell the arena to countless other shows in the
same time period.

I wonder if the MSG Sphere in Stratford will be ready by May next year? Co-Op Live in Manchester would be good although I assume they've got acts pencilled for when it opens.

I doubt it. It has not finished the getting approval stage yet.

I think Cardiff could host. The Principality Stadium works well as a live arena and not only has a second adjacent stadium (Cardiff Arms Park) which could provide extra infrastructure, but nearby Bute Park has plenty of open land to build a fanzone etc. This set up worked well when it hosted the UEFA Champions League Final in 2017.
