They made a right cats bottom of the sound that day in Cardiff. It faded out totally at the top of the hour leaving total silence until Huw said Good Evening Noswaith dda.

Made all their totally unnecessary and over the top pans of the exterior and atrium seem a bit all the gear no idea.

At one point I wondered whether it was the news or just Huw’s pitch for the Presidency!

Huw is probably the proudest Welshman you'll come across. I do agree the pans were as you put it 'a bit all the gear no idea'. But I've no problem him saying good evening in Welsh. Incidentally - would both programmes have been controlled from London or Cardiff?

I have no problem with him using Welsh either - it was a nice touch.

Actually - I know it's been confirmed that Local Election coverage will be from Studio E at NBH, but I do wonder whether in future elections could be anchored from Central Square. They certainly have the space. The only issue would be getting the usual stream of politicians there. OK, so I've just answered my own argument!

I have no idea why they persist with using the Cardiff atrium as a presentation space. It is just a vast, barren, grey space that isn't visually interesting and is awkwardly laid out meaning that they have to use awkward camera angles to get the gimmicky LED wall in shot. They'd be much better off using one of the presentation areas on the upper floors - at least then you get a look at the newsroom rather than a black wall (though, even then, the newsroom is quite colourless).

Bbc world news been playing live with Lucy Hockings trailer with the old logo all day long, does highlight how good the old boxed logo was which worked with bbc world news and bbc news.

The bbc sport app trailer has been updated as well but of course Sport Today just like everything coming out of bbc sport in Salford is using the old logo, there’s no consistency to anything.

The Oneness idents were different to what people were used to, sometimes there is a reason that broadcasters haven't gone 'different' in that direction before. The reason that news programmes aren't broadcast from sets that look like grey, abandoned warehouses is that it isn't a great look. 

I'd agree that just presenting random bulletins from other cities is a bit pointless, particularly in the half-arsed manner that they've decided to do it. But Cardiff is an odd-one-out in how they've presented it. Glasgow, Belfast and Salford were done with a skyline view, Cardiff is being presented in such a way that seems designed to show off their new HQ - you might as well show off the more visually interesting parts of the building. Though, to be honest, trying to use the Cardiff HQ in a similar manner to NBH just won't work - it doesn't look good on camera, with the lack of any colour being a major factor.

Maybe it's my inherent Welsh bias but I think the Cardiff HQ looks pretty decent and the atrium presentation can work really well. Is it suitable for a standard news bulletin though - probably not, and the Ten on Tour just feels like a box ticking exercise rather than genuinely reaching out to locations outside of London and having a purpose for bulletins being there. I'm guessing though the local elections might be the current excuse for going out on the road.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I can't say I particularly rate the building - just makes me think of a shopping centre. Maybe it's just looks poor in comparsion to the BBC's many brilliant atria - Pacific Quay, the old Media Centre, the news pit at NBH. Even though Quay House isn't anything spectacular, its atrium at least has a splash of colour and looks broadcastingy.

I’m also pretty unimpressed with the new Cardiff HQ. Everything I’ve seen of the inside of the building just looks grey, gloomy and depressing. I’m not sure it reminds me of a shopping centre though - they tend to be a bit brighter. A shopping centre multi-story car park possibly.

However we may have to get use to it as I have heard Cardiff is the blue print for the rest and not just in terms of the building!

I think the problem with Cardiff is that it looks stunning from a distance, but up close it’s pretty dark and uninteresting.

And when you’ve got a professional photographer with a wide angle lens sent in to do official publicity pictures, you’d expect it to look impressive. Even then I still think it looks like a dark and depressing place to work.

I have wondered though if the dark grey is somehow meant to represent Welsh slate.
