For some reason I always thought Hala would retire at CNNI. She was just so at home there. This is a big blow.....

She did a Q&A a week ago and somebody asked her if she would ever think go going back to France and perhaps work for the likes of France 24. Her response was "never say never" and something along the lines of stay tuned or watch this space.
Maybe a move to French broadcasting?

Related but not related, I hope they bring back Your World Today in that spot!

Edit: Just read on the CNN thread that Cyril seems to have left CNN so that puts an end to my YWT wish!

Bloody hell - did not see that coming. Another departure from CNN London following Cyril Vanier’s departure. Hala has been a CNN mainstay for years.

Wonder what this means for the slot that currently houses her show.

Jesus. I only seen her do overnight broadcasts during CNN's coverage of Russia's war on Ukraine. And now she is leaving CNN for good. I am stunned to read her post above at this point. There also has some airings of short trailers promoting her show during the week. But all that work of putting out those shortened trailers are gone now & all put to bed.

Hala Gorani is a great journalist. I hope she appears back on our screens soon.

Just due to life events I haven't been able to view CNN much for the last 6 months or so, so I have just caught up with the news that Hala Gorani finished CNN last week.

This is devastating. Hala Gorani is one of the anchors that has been a CNN constant pretty much since I started watching CNN almost 20 years ago. Hala Gorani IS CNN.

It appears entirely coincidental that Hala leaving has coincided almost perfectly with CNN's new owners taking over. After a few years where things were largely "up in the air", CNN is entering a new era, and I don't doubt there will be more changes at CNN over the next year or so as the new owners get to grips with the challenges and opportunities ahead.

All the best to Hala, I'll be keeping an eye on what she does next!

I'm a little confused. In her Instagram story and on-air farewell, she doesn't exactly say she's leaving CNN – just that she's leaving "daily news anchoring." Maybe she's still sticking around but only for special projects? Or maybe she's pulling a Soledad O'Brien and will produce her own documentaries and shop them around to CNN and others?

This is me just speculating, but I can't help but wonder if her contract renewal talks soured miserably and are maybe still unresolved. Look at this post from her husband too:

I can assure you that the grind of daily news gets to everyone, especially after a decade or two, so perhaps this was consciously her decision. But reading between the lines, I can't help but sense some frustration here. I remember seeing some posts in her Instagram story more or less indicating frustration when her show was on hiatus. Her show was walked over so many times in the last few years, and she and all the other CNNIers were effectively sidelined and left to do nothing for much of what has turned out to be the biggest story of our lifetimes.

I can't blame her or any other people there for leaving if that's what's happening here. Hala has always been one of CNN's greatest unrealized talents. I've always thought that she should have been elevated to be a global face of CNN along with the likes of Wolf, AC, and Christiane as one of the instantly recognizable anchors always at the front of every big story on all of CNN's platforms.

In any event, whether she has left CNN for good or not, I'm sure she'll be up to something great next, and I can't wait to see what that is.

CNN's Clarissa Ward tweeted last week "The great @HalaGorani is saying goodbye to @cnn for now."  Using the words "for now" does indicate she may be coming back to air in a different capacity.

I was wondering the same thing, but didn't want to speculate. All of these ''presented her last CNN show, for now'' posts, many of them making it sound as if she's only quitting news presenting. There's something strange about it.

The legacy of Zucker really - he sidelined CNNI and respected journalists on it for years for the likes of Stelter, Cuomo and Lemon and this is the result. Cuomo left under a cloud, CNN Domestic's reputation in tatters, CNN+ has made CNN a laughing stock in the media world and a number of International anchors now seem to be voting with their feet.
