I don't think its been confirmed that the News channel will be using it yet (or moving from studio E)? I was of the understanding that the nationals were going to have their own dedicated studio again?
I suppose if studio E is going to get a refit the News channel would logically move into B temporarily. However, studio C would surely be the first to have a refit as its the second 'oldest' studio in terms of use in NBH after studio B.
My educated guess is the News channel will share studio B at some point, World move to E while C is being refitted. World moves back to C. E then gets refitted and News channel moves back into E.
In terms of it going live, I would assume they'd want B on air for when the local elections happen during the first week in May, so the middle to the end of April for it to be unveiled on screen for the BBC One news bulletins is an educated guess.
All speculation of course!

I fear this might be correct, although I will find it interesting to see which forumers who spent years decrying the Barco sets as bland suddenly declare their love for a set that is basically a more modern version of the Barco sets, but somehow done worse. If that is the road they go down, I do hope they at least decide to actually light it properly - the Wales Today set manages to make N9 circa 2008 look well lit.
If the new set is based on a style we've already seen, I would much rather it was the Washington set which, other than the baked bean tin lightbox, is one of my favourite BBC News sets ever. Though I've been around long enough to remember people extrapolating too much from the 2011/2012 Midlands Today, North West Tonight/Breakfast and BBC Sport sets about what the NBH sets would look like. The Barco sets *were* bland though. They were literally a box lined with what now look like poor quality screens (when judging by current standards), with little in the way of furniture. The BBC always seem to suffer from this lack of creativity and style, I don’t think their current sets are much better in all honesty.

When you look at what Match of the Day can do I’m half tempted to say Studio B should go fully virtual.
I presume this isn’t as easy with a rolling news studio as you have to rehearse the virtual elements to make it work as well as it does in Salford, but for the bulletins it should be possible?

Where did I say that the national Barco sets weren't bland. I was merely suggesting that there are some members who I have seen complain about the basicness of N6 and TC7 who now seem to think a set that is of a similar design, if not even more basic, is great.
My more nuanced review of the Barco sets would be that they were, TC7 in particular, a good idea in theory, but poorly executed. The core elements of the set should have been just the basics, with additional elements added for each programme - but only Marr really did this, with most other programmes simply opting for plonking a desk on the rostrum. Breakfast was probably the worst offender - people like to criticise the current studio, but it looked god awful in its last years at TVC. Newsnight's last set of furniture, though, did suit the overall set quite well.
I think the second incarnation of the N6 Barco set did work better than some people give it credit for. The fake newsroom backdrop may not have been the greatest idea for a news channel, but it worked alright for the One and particularly the Ten (which always looked better than the Six from TC7) and was certainly better than the 2003 or 2006 sets.
I would certainly agree with you, though, that BBC could often do better for sets - particularly in terms of integrating them into the wider branding. The desire for flexibility is partially to blame for the genericness, but even looking back to the cream and red era, the only thing that really matched the wider brand was the colour scheme.

Tech has moved on since that was built and I don’t think they spent much on it as it was only ever going to be a spare studio or for brief inserts in reports.
Clearly they could make a decent VR studio if they wanted to as they’ve done it in Salford.

Sorry - I was coming at this from the angle of someone who thought the Barco sets were bland, but likes the idea of something in the style of Wales Today ? I think WT make a decent use of the space, but more than this I like the creativity of how they use the screens and how the set is lit.

Why will we want network bulletins looking different to new channel? Surely the charm of it all is that ‘news’ all looks the same and then is seamless?

Well the network bulletin usually known as the "newscast of record" from a broadcaster, so it should look and feel different and more important than a regular bog-standard 30 min rolling newscast. Plus its just plain boring for everything to look exactly the same and no distinguishing features. Thats my opinion any way.

Why can't the BBC ever do a nice clean fresh look all in a day anymore?
So why go thru the trouble of adding the new logo and then some months down the line update the actual opens....if thats is indeed the plan. Its weird, the opens and lower thirds werent done at the same time. Why do it piecemeal? Just take the time to ready an ENTIRELY new graphics package and roll it out. Maybe everything cant be done the same day, but surely they could have done the main Network bulletins and the News channels at the same time and slowly rolled out the regions across the year and then all the other media assets. They arent the only broadcaster of this size that needs to do something on that scale. I cant remember the last time they did a full entirely new graphics relaunch rather than a evolution, which is all the BBC seems to do with news, when everything gets redone, news just does the same things over and over slightly different each time. Oh well. The frustration continues.

I am the only one who thinks that it may be a great idea that the new package could be an evolution of the current one? I mean, some of the 2019 titles (regions, slides for BBC World News, breaking news slide, Breakfast), look fine, with a more 2D look but at the same time maintain some recognizable characteristics (like the moving stripes, main colours, the placenames) and they are on line with the on screen graphics.
I always throught that those 2019 intros were a "test" for a more wide graphic package, because if they wanted they could have maintained the 2008/2013 ones only changing the logo.
