Being picky - wouldn’t they just have removed it from from the multiplex before it was uplinked to the satellite? Might not have needed any change on the satellite itself.

It's dependent on whether Globecast cut the feed, or whether SES Astra did. If Globecast did, then it's just a dead stream at the satellite, but if SES Astra did, it would involve what I said before.

There's no way that SES would have done anything, the transport stream that is sent to the satellite is a multiplex of several channels and is created by whichever companies are handling the channel's distribution and uplink. If the channel line up needs changing then its up to either the transport stream or the metadata that accompanies it to be changed.

The satellite owner can't do it unless they just switched off the whole transponder and that affects everything on it. That's not the way it will have been done

I don't want an argument either but unless you saw the other 15 services on its transponder disappear too then the satellite owner wasn't involved.... unless of course SES do/did the encoding and uplink (I assume they do that for UKTV now)

Happy to see that the EU ban is linked to a cessation of propaganda against the countries of the union.
In other words, even an end of the war in Ukraine would not suffice to resume RT services in the EU.

Unlikely the channel will be back unless there’s a major regime change in Russia.

An interesting documentary on BBC Four now which features among other things a Russian independent tv channel being closed down by the Russian government in 2014. Now they enjoy a taste of their own medicine.

I explained that before, when discussing transponders. A transponder has possibly upto 15 streams on it. I also explained that the transponder couldn't be taken down for that reason (see another thread if it isn't on this).

Taking an encoder off of a sat is easy from the ground, which Globecast could do, if Eutelsat were to do it, it would require much more issues, and for what it's worth, I think that's what happened - we got bars before the MHEG message.

We know it's gone from Astra and Eutelsat (and presumably most of the other spots) But is it still going anywhere else in the world? I guess that Russia Today is still on the Russian owned Express satellites.

I don't have access to anything other than 28.2 east these days, so I can't change confirm for myself.

For what it's worth it's gone from my IPTV provider.

Its still going on other parts of the world its just a european ban but if you really want to see it you still can.
