Reports from the Daily Mail that the BBC have an all female shortlist for the role - though they clearly don't know who is on that shortlist and just speculate that it include Sophie, Mishal Husain and Laura Kuenssberg with Emma Barnett and Fiona Bruce also possibilities.

That's quite interesting, as a press report I read a few week ago (which seemed well-placed, as it quoted Andrew Marr) suggested that Jon Sopel wanted both the Political Editor job and the Marr Show role. It would of course be very challenging to do both.

Being a long-time Americast listener, I personally think his style would suit the Sunday morning show role - but clearly that's not a full-time job in itself. Perhaps, it's becoming clearer now that he will likely replace Laura K.

Let’s not forget he presented a BBC Sunday morning political show for some time!
