Not sure why in a 3 minute bulletin they’re even reporting on the winner of Celeb Masterchef. Barely news at all (not like a Strictly winner). And if you cared, ermm you’d be watching it.

One small tweak to the Friday bulletin. The showbiz segment which used to be a casual chat between the showbiz reporter and the presenters is now a pre-recorded segment of showbiz news presented by Rezzy Ghadjar from the corner of the set where the big screen is.

This is completely unrelated to current 5 News - but I have a question about the hourly updates they used to put out. When did they stop? I understand that originally they were every hour between 6am and midnight, and that they were gradually reduced over time - but when did they stop completely?

Arguably they haven't stopped completely - the updates on weekdays just before 2000 and 2100 are the final legacy of the hourly updates 'concept'

In terms of all day updates, at least 15 years ago. The mid-afternoon update survived into the Natasha Kaplinsky era, often as a useful variable length 'gap filler' depending on the length of the afternoon film. But that was the last daytime update IIRC until lunchtime was shortened from a full bulletin

A shame they vanished as I think there would still be a place for them if they could do them from say midday to 9pm.

Wonder too if 5News hadn't made their own changes whether they might have benefitted from the Evening News changes by offering a shorter 6.30 bulletin. Do we know what impact the changes have had on the 5-7pm ratings?

Honestly, getting rid of the 1830 bulletin was long overdue. it did terrible ratings wise and even a shorter bulletin wouldn't have increased ratings.

I suspect that is just a placeholder on the EPG for something else, which will appear in the schedule.  On the Sky EPG it's currently shown as being for considerably longer, so they are obviously tinkering.

Nobody is going to sit and watch the news for that long on a Saturday evening . . .

During the 'news in brief' section in 5 News at 5 tonight, the story about the Stormont Assembly unable to elect a Speaker was accompanied mostly by library pictures of Government Buildings in Dublin, then very briefly of Stormont House in Belfast at the end. 
Surely we can all agree that Dublin is not Belfast
