The rarely-heard middle 8 section really brought a lump to my throat as Jon was being congratulated by his colleagues in the newsroom.

Not only a testament to Jon, but also to the recently-departed composer, Alan Hawkshaw. Two C4 News legends in their own right.
Ahh - the tradition of clapping a departing hack out of the newsroom on their last day. Just to prove the point, that whilst its a television programme, it has very firm roots in journalism.

Whilst I'm not normally a sentemental old boot, even I had a slightly 'moist' left eye as the credits rolled...
A brilliant way to end the show, and to mark Jon's leaving the presenting chair.

I thought the tradition was “banging out” and was mildly surprised to see them clapping instead, but perhaps times have moved on.

I accept that I'm musically tone deaf, but it doesn't sound like what they used afterwards, or any of the variations. :?

Ah yes, the "exception", as I like to call it. This was the first theme, but they went on to use Best Endeavours, and has been a signature of C4 News, like the beeps and the bongs. To be frank I was quite surprised when I heard Best Endeavours on a news evolution on Channel 4 News, because prior to that, I heard that theme on an intro evolution on ABC News, when it was called ABC National (unsuccessfully). I liked the theme, but didn't know what it was called. Until I discovered Channel 4.

Thanks, Jon Snow. You truly were one of a kind.

1988 theme plays, but the melody at the end is the Tagesschau theme.</t>

Any update on who is taking over Jon Snow as 'main' presenter of Channel 4 News, yet?
