Depends if there's any explanation he can give which doesn't sound like he's doing it because he's somehow embarrassed or ashamed of it or he's "moved beyond" it now he's a senior executive, which would just come across as him doing it for his own ego and vanity. Though in my opinion, merely being embarrassed or thinking an old role is now "beneath you" shouldn't be a good enough reason to keep something off air. We'd probably barely have any archive TV or film available if people embarrassed by their performances had a veto (probably including countless TOTP performances for that matter if the artists were able to block them- and they have much more screen time than the presenters). Of course we don't know what his actual reasoning is.

Not really - he clearly had the right to block it, he's chosen to do so and that is all the information people need. He has no obligation to explain anything to anyone.

But surely by acknowledging the situation might stop all the negative tweets and comments that are currently doing the rounds. Thus ending the attention he is currently getting.

It's not going to end it now though whatever he says and does, that can of worms has well and truly been opened, doubly so if any reasoning he gives just adds up to what I said earlier anyway.

We're still in our rights to discuss and critisise his decision though (as long as it doesn't get too personal and abusive), regardless of whether some people feel he "doesn't owe us anything" or similar. It's not as if countless other people on this forum don't complain about issues that other people could claim "we can't do anything about" and "is none of our business" after all. That whole post has a whiff of "it's not something I'm bothered about, so we shouldn't be talking about it".

It's fine to criticise his decision. What will be tedious is if we end up with dozens of posts of complaints about it, like what happened with Mike Smith. It comes across a bit obsessive. They're Top of the Pops repeats. It's a shame, but it's his decision, and there's probably nothing we can do about it.

Oh how I wish I was the same on the 'completist' front, but I do see these repeats as my last chance to get these shows in good quality.

Yes the flak Sarah Greene got was terrible especially as she had lost her Husband and then was fighting questions and comments from loads of others. I felt she was very dignified in here responses.

Don't get me wrong I wish Adrian Rose/Woolfe no ill will.

It's not such a big deal really seeing how many 'banned' editions have sneaked out of the BBC Archive over the past few years

To be honest, the only real loss of the Adrian Rose editions with perceived historical value in pop music is Nirvana's performance. And the BBC have certainly got their money's worth out of repeating that clip on assorted compilations and documentary shows over the years.

With the exception of a very small handful of personal favourites, I'm not seeing much more that I'm too fussed about only having through low res BBC VT files + the various AI upscales flying around now. I imagine it'd be a bit more of a disappointment to most if this happened on the same scale during the Ric Blaxill era, but as it stands right now it's looking like that won't take as much of a hit.

Not usually brilliant quality though, sadly. Even the "restorations" usually look poor, 360p25 files with some pretty poor processing to upscale the resolution and sometimes the framerate (which usually leaves it looking like it's running in fast forward).

Though I guess it's no different to being stuck with poor quality copies of TV shows on most major streaming services, which is increasingly becoming the only way to see many things. Off-air VHSs often look better.

Interesting that the lead singer of Undercover- one of the acts who'll be affected by Rose's episodes being blocked has commented on it (not sure I should post it, as it's not the most complimentary). Does show how this sort of decision does affect some people in other ways other than just inconveniencing completists. At least in his case though, at least one of their performances on another edition will be shown, other acts won't be so lucky. I know plenty of artists have anticipated their performances being shown on TV again and them getting fresh exposure (K-Klass have been all over being shown again on Twitter this weekend for example).
