Just thinking in relation to the serious situation in the city right now. And more generally, if a correspondent is miles away, would Sky try and find a freelance or speak to a local radio station to try and get some live updates on air.
Mark White doing an excellent job of compiling and reporting on the situation, but from his home in West London.
I always thought this is where the local channels could have really made an impact. Allowing their reporters to report for the London based news channels. Having some sort of news share agreement. Signing off their reports by saying something like: "This is John Smith Made in XXXX for Sky News". Just a random thought. But alas none of that will ever happen for a variety of reasons. Sad. oh well

Sadly, Plymouth never got a local TV channel, cos nobody bid for it. Nobody wanted either Plymouth or Barnstaple in their local TV portfolios, so we missed out on seeing the decline of local TV in our own area. Maybe that's a good thing, but I would have loved to have had a local TV station serving our area.

Whilst I think he may have gone about in the wrong way, I doubt he wanted someone to send in images or videos of dead bodies, he said for use on Sky News and quite frankly those sort of pictures wouldn’t have made the TV screen anyway. Sky, ITV and BBC we’re using footage of police cordons, emergency services arriving, air ambulances landing etc. I imagine he was probably looking for that sort of stuff.
We say a lot about mental health in society and then it feels like at the same time we have a pile on for a freelance journalist - who whilst perhaps at best should have been clearer, at worst should not tweeted such a thing - but he’s human and had a bad day at the office it seems. Many on here know first hand the pressures of broadcast environments and newsrooms, many others have a good insight into the job, I think clearly this was an error of judgement but let’s remember this was tragic incident and I doubt it was any broadcasters intention to be insensitive.
Lets be clear Im not advocating one way or the other......but I find it interesting that you see graphic images and footage (of course within reason) (ie. bodies under blankets) on UK broadcasters when its some other place like a North American mass shooting or a famine, or genocide in some third world country and you hear the proverbial "we caution you this report contains graphic images". But everyone starts clutching their pearls and swingiing handbags and throwing tomatoes and start talking about having some sensitivity and human decency when an "incident" happens in the UK and a journalist seeks footage. I find it....lets just say interesting. :roll:

Just watching Kay Burley interviewing the Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace. Her style is just awful. Ben Wallace is one of the better Ministers who answers questions and tells it how it is. She doesn't want to listen to his answers, and is only interested in working her way down her list of predetermined questions. I find her so aggressive, and on many occasions her facts are wrong. I struggle to watch her.

She can switch it on and off, I think it’s a bit of an act but I don’t think it really works when you’re also going for impartiality. She’s said before she plays devils advocate but I don’t think she does it very cleverly.

Is the Daily Climate Show, still happening… well, daily? I just noticed Anna Jones on Sky News Tonight and then I couldn’t see a climate programme today or yesterday on catch up.
