New BBC Logo
RickLee84 post_id=28799 time= user_id=1009 Wrote:There seems to be brand unification in the logos used for core services (they all look similar but with differences, think what Microsoft do for the Office programs) and what the end board looks like seems to be what will be used across all channels and then the animation/logo for the channel comes in at the end to enable a transition to an iPlayer sting and enforce the channel identity, basically what BBC 2 and Channel 5 do already. It is nice to see that the BBC blocks move a lot and morph into various things to create a bit of flow. Reminds me slightly of the 2013 ITV rebrand where they made sure things lined up to look seamless as they transitioned between endboard, ident, promo slide etc. It is slick but it is very different when compared to what we currently have from the BBC.

The only thing shown was the BBC TWO logo (with blocks and TWO in Reith) which appears full screen before smoothly dissolving into a current BBC TWO ident but the BBC blocks shrink down and are now centred at the top of the screen and the TWO shrinks down and is centred at the bottom. If that is how they are going to have the idents for all 4 channels it's a bold choice. It might have been something done simply for the promo video or it might be what the idents will actually look like now. I'm dying to see what they have planned for BBC ONE. If they keep this modern, slick presentation around for ONE it would certainly help give it a more modern and not as stuffy image. Interesting times lie ahead!

Think the 1997 corporate rebrand, which saw all BBC channels and services using unified look that is Gill Sans anywhere (Ex "BBC ONE" all in Gill with BBC blocks logo in Gill), which seems like no unique identity for each service. This time, the rebranding will be no drastic as 24 years ago as some channels will maintain unique identity like BBC Kids, but i believe at least, they will maintain brand consistency for all Radio, TV, Online, and other service.
So I did the survey, and honestly it's a major improvement from the previous branding and I'm really hoping and looking forward to seeing it come to life on screen. Especially BBC One.
Remember that the survey items may not be final, just a test. A lot of the questions revolved around "did the new logo/icon identify the relevant product" sort of thing, which was mainly I think due to the radically different iPlayer logo. What we have seen in the survey may not be the final design and may not make it to air at all. But if it did in the form we saw it in, it would be a massive change for the BBC overall, some would say a long overdue one, and others would likely argue it's too much.

Like I said before, if they do go with that iPlayer logo it will cause a lot of conversation on here. I don't think anyone in the Gallery here or on TVF ever made something so abstract/radical and if they did I'm pretty sure it would have been panned. It's a bold choice to go with something like they have designed for it.
I want to do this survey as well, where I can find it?

Go into the App Store and update the app.
Having just downloaded it for the first time on android and enabling beta mode I'm also still seeing the old logo.

Just did the survey and unfortunately missed the opportunity to take screen grabs from the video (it's as described above with BBC centred at the top of the screen and TWO at the bottom along with a BBC Sport promo with a new 'bars' logo). I did however managed to screen grab the new logos that are being considered. It’s different.

Edited by moderation team to remove screenshots.
I took screenshots as well but wasn't going to post them on here, they were for my own study. I would highly advise you to remove those before a mod does, you shouldn't have posted them here and could lead to trouble for the site.

I've removed the image references from the quote above in case your original post gets edited/deleted.

But I just wanted to say I LOVE the block icons for the various services along the top of your first screenshot.
I've snipped out the posted screenshots from the offending post.

Many thanks to those of you who flagged this up via reports.

Thomalex - no hard feelings, I know you were just trying to add to the discussion but please think carefully about what you post here in future.

Thanks, folks. Smile
"Good evening. Dull, grey, cold, miserable - and that's just me. The weather hasn't been great, either."
Those screenshots are definitely best off removed… but from what I did see briefly there it was very abstract and geometric which I kind of like. I do like the emphasis on the 3 blocks and how they carry though to all of the identities. It’s certainly very different to what we have now but that isn’t a bad thing at all…

Oh wow, it actually is! With a nice little pull down to refresh 3 block animation too…

I think the graphics here have actually convinced me it's not all bad at least. Interesting to abandon the "NEWS" subtext, at least it makes people complain that it hasn't been Reithed shut up, since the LOGO has been Reithed!

Good point. BTW, am I the only one here who thinks that with this rebranding, some channels may potentially be renamed? To get a better example, here's what I envision, even though that it may not be that necessary:
 • CBBC --> BBC Kids
 • CBeebies --> BBC Junior
 • BBC iPlayer --> BBC Select

The names certainly won't be changing, and they certainly won't be renaming iPlayer to Select when it is already a VOD brand for America. Nothing in the survey suggested they were changing names for any services, just giving them new icons for the website and on screen, such as the aforementioned new iPlayer logo being a big departure from what we have had already. They are certainly looking like they are moving towards having the icons represent the services without needing words appearing below or beside them to explain what they are. The iPlayer one does have a Play symbol in it and the Weather one is cleverly made to look like a quarter section of the sun icon from the old Weather maps.

Apologies, the enthusiast took over me and I didn’t think before I posted that so thanks for removing and being considerate.

For anyone asking how to view the survey, it’s not an exact science but if you sign up for Swagbucks it’s one of the 6 minute surveys you can take part in at the top of the list (at least it was for me).

I see. With that in mind, do you think that the likes of CBBC and CBeebies will only be subtle changes, then? (based on the potential sneak peek of the new BBC logo on the 2016 CBBC logo)
