GB News: Launch
Watching during the commercial break, it looks like someone has upped the speed on the ticker, which makes the judder even worse.

Biggest show of the day was Andrew Neil with 153,000 (0.9%)
Dewbs & Co. = 135,000 (0.9%)
Breakfast = 79,200 (2.5%) [Sky at Breakfast was 58k]

Whole day figures (6am till midnight):
GB News = 74,100
Sky News = 78,000
BBC News = 138,400
Any comparative figures from last Monday. I think they can be happy with that, and the BBC will be as well. Sky probably have the most to worry about with them fighting for commercial eyeballs, although maybe it's radio they would pull viewers/listeners away from.

As for advertisers withdrawing it needs to be kept in perspective - so far it's really just a handful and there are plenty of British media organisations reliant on advertising who continue to exist despite campaigns for advertisers to withdraw from them. I think the trouble is it seems to be reactive rather than proactive when it comes to deciding where you want to place your ads on the smaller channels. Even popular non-controversial digital channels like ITV3/ITV4 seem to have a very small pool of advertisers, often lower in profile, whilst the big companies concentrate their spend elsewhere. Indeed it was interesting when the French Open switched to ITV3 for it's final the advertising was more noteably targetted at an ITV3 audience rather than at a tennis audience.

21k viewers is quite a margin to beat Sky at Breakfast with. I just wish they'd brighten the studio up a bit, especially early in the morning !

Still a question of whether it will hold or is just early curiosity though.

The thing about this tricolor stripe is that the angle and colors remind me heavily of the 1983 LWT ident used after the end of in-vision.

That part of the logo just looks like the Fox searchlight beams upside down to me.

What's going on with the contact email? I thought it was gbviews@gbnews.uk, but it just said on screen that it was yourviews@gbnews.uk
“we’ll be back in a minute”
*5 seconds later*
“welcome back”

the presenters seem so shocked when they come back as if they were expecting a longer break.
this channels rundown is so discombobulated, i don’t understand how you can get something so wrong?
the music is awful and the lack of “proper titles” is disappointing.

apologies for the negativity but come on gb news, big centre tv was better than this when it first started and i thought that was awful

It's either a mistake or they've changed it - gbviews@gbnews.uk struck me as a tongue-twister of an address when I first heard it, so I'm hoping it's the latter.
"Good evening. Dull, grey, cold, miserable - and that's just me. The weather hasn't been great, either."

Looking at the ticker, it's gbviews. But the strap they had earlier was yourviews.
On subtitling, if I've understood Ofcom's access services code correctly, they will, within about 6 months but more likely a year, set GB News a target for signing and subtitling hours? Primarily according to audience share?

There's a separate, updated list of channels: BBC News and Sky are on the full - "level one" - list, Al Jazeera doesn't appear anyway, and Parliament is specifically named as exempt due to low audience share (though they do have subtitles, just not any signing afaik).
Please direct all political discussion of this broadcaster to www.metropol247.co.uk/forum/ (which I am still banned from, but hey ho!).
The weakness in GB News' ability to cover breaking news is showing.

Liam Halligan and Gloria De Piero are now picking up the Daniel Morgan story which has been out for a couple of hours, but have to ask contributor Leroy Logan to set out all the background.

Watching on a grade 1 monitor yesterday it was jumping to a rhythm - as though it was at 20fps so skipping 4 frames every second, or something.

Watching the same feed on the same monitor today it is smooth.

Hopefully one thing ticked off the technical snagging list.
I've not watched today but someone mentioned the weather earlier. Yesterday, it seemed a bit hit and miss as to whether you'd get a Met Office forecast with presenter, the Met office map with GB presenter read-out, or just the Met Office map with music. It makes me wonder whether there's a restriction on the number of times they can show the full Met Office forecast - perhaps part of their deal? Presumably the more updates/broadcasts you want throughout the day, the more the Met Office charges.

Also, the more often you show the exact same forecast the more out of date it becomes (and can get quite obvious, as others have noted).
The last 15 minutes haven't been particularly good from a professional or journalistic angle. Liam made some comment about Gloria's age which she didn't seem very comfortable about at all (re getting a second COVID jab). They've now started talking about the Daniel Morgan report findings with no background about the case and actually asked the contributor to tell them about it for him to say he only picked up on the case a few years later.

Most news agencies knew that the report findings were going to be released today, it's not as if it came as a surprise so why be so unprepared about a really serious subject? How they'll handle a big breaking news story, with no reasonably sized news gathering operation will be interesting to see.
As seen on BBC Newswatch
