The Saturday edition of the Today show and Sunday Today with Willie Geist are both on NBC News Now at 5pm UK time.
Both are quite different from the weekday show, though. The Saturday edition comes from Washington and is totally desk-based - and Sunday Today is quite feature-heavy in an attempt to rival CBS Sunday Morning. They used to show highlights from the weekday Today show at 5pm UK on weekdays, but it was mostly just back-to-back reports with the links edited out.

Sunday Today is not a bad little programme and its a good lead before switching over to the far superior CBS Sunday Morning. Their cerebral coverage of the Ukraine Invasion has been brilliant these past few weeks. Sunday Today's anchor Willie Giest, (who's dad, Bill Giest, incidentally was a reporter for CBS Sunday Morning for 31 years!) does a decent job and slows things down just a bit. His cadence is different for this programme.

I tuned in today and it was a simulcast of Sky News every time I checked, was there a reason for this? The EPG said it was supposed to show the Today Show.

Just had a look at it now it's on Virgin, and they're simulcasting Sky News- and with the picture being converted from 50i to 60i (or 60p, not sure what format the channel is produced in) and back again, the motion looks absolutely dreadful- even the ticker isn't moving smoothly!
I imagine it look a lot better watching the channel for a 60Hz source (and similarly, 60Hz material converted to 50 looks mostly fine through the Virgin feed), it's the double-conversion from and back to 50 that's making it look dodgy.

I watched it on the NBC News app using the Nvidia Shield app today using the Refresh Rate app which forces the Shield to play video at the native fps. Considering unlike Sky and Virgin that it only had it converted to 60fps at 1080p, the Sky News picture looked grainy and washed out.

NBC News Now on Sky EPG 525 (UK) seems to have had some kind of stroke and is currently broadcasting a French version of 13th Street, complete with adverts…. Not sure how long that’s been going on for…?
Was corrected at 13:05… must have been a switching error with NBCU as 13th Street is a sister channel…. |
