On the whole a very successful day for C4 - think it's gone better than most expected with significant positive viewer engagement. Of course it has triggered those you'd expect it to trigger but for once they've not dominated the conversation. Hopefully it achieves something meaningful for the industry.

I don't think anyone would notice or care that the narration was the same since nobody can see the person who is narrating.

Given that they changed the narration on the Key Equity Release sponsorship for afternoons from Kevin Whately to Paul Barber I believe, I am surprised that they didn't swap Come Dine With Me and Gogglebox too.

And the day was as much about the unseen talent being black as it was the on screen talent. Really is an observation though rather than a complaint. I can see why they didn't change them, but also considering the changes elsewhere I see no reason not to change them either.

Talking of Come Dine with Me rather than a one-off hour long episode it was a double episode of a week that had played out over the last few days, with 6 people rather than 5. Not sure how many they've made post covid but seemed these were all hosted outside with full social distancing (rather than creating a bubble or cohort for the week), so you needed a pretty big dining table for 6 people sat 2m apart. They're repeating the whole week overnight which takes the initiative over the 24 hour mark.

A LBGTQ+ Day would be fun.

You’ve highlighted the problem with these kinds of initiatives, promoting one ethnic or cultural background group in place of another. Your suggestion of a Diversity Day would I think have been a better option.

Perhaps disability day could be an interesting one?

Did Channel 4 News do anything? Haven’t seen that mentioned.

Yes - an all black team and some special reports on returning African artifacts from the British museum plus the much trailed Royal comments on BLM.

That suggests that appearance matters over substance. Aside from the fact that it’s mostly possible to tell apart a black voice from, say, a white voice, I think the day was also about black people having roles across the production, rather than just appearing to. Btw, I may come across a little harsh here but I do mean it politely.

I also agree with Brekkie that it can be argued both ways on this issue or changing the voice or not.

Unapologetic, the late night talk show which debuted as part of this, has been commissioned for a six part series.
