On the very old Canal Satélite Digital DVB-S boxes (some of which are still in circulation in Spain as far as I know, considering the DVB-S MPEG2 hasn't yet been switched off!), a presumably MHW-based app loads that lets you switch between the radio stations. There are data PIDs associated with the service that presumably contain the carousel stuff for this. Would be interesting if that worked on an OnDigital box, even though unlikely I guess!

I've just been poking about in the provided dump and I pulled one application out at random (as I don't know what any of them do, so any will do), and the one I pulled out has an application name of "UPSELLING", which I assume means it's trying to get you up your subscription or pay for a service. Haven't looked at the others yet, so I don't know if they're all the same. Also, should really put this in the other thread, but as it's kinda relevant, I've not yet managed to get the ONdigital box to do anything with it (but I'll be trying some of the others to see if they're the same, and it might be partly due to me not knowing quite what I'm doing).

That's the one! I think the idea is that on the (old and slow!) CSD receivers, that stream will show until the MHW app eventually loads. When I last used one of those boxes in the Canary Islands a few years back, I saw it used in that way for the EPG (Guía), which takes a pretty long while to load.

Interesting, I would guess the upselling probably refers to trying to move remaining customers over to their IPTV service over fibre. Movistar have been pushing that hard over the last years, as FTTP has rolled out across Spain. At least for now it remains on satellite to probe!
As memory serves, wasn't a creative use of MHEG in the early Freeview days with adult channels?
As the boxes had no cams or card slots, I seem to remember the adult channel would load and be masked by MHEG and would unmask after a code was put in, you got from a subscription phone call.. Or did they just launch MHEG and the correct code would send you to the correct PID for the video(not sure MHEG could do that or not).
Not very secure, but presumably good enough for most viewers.

1. Reads the yellow section of different elements and their locations, draws them on screen
2. Downloads the font and points the text elements to use that when drawn
3.Reads the palette (orange) to fill the colours of the elements
4. Reads the green section, works out which elements are links and what they do when activated
I invite you to correct me!

I don't! I sourced the diagram from http://mheg5.net/down/class.pdf - which might make sense of why it reminds you of work; it's a "genuine technical flowchart" (for lack of better phrase)
