If a slot is branded or named, it should be different in some way, shape or form to rolling news.
I’ve had Sky News on in the background for the first time in a long time, and didn’t realise just how stale it’s become - a couple of titlecards and a few locked off shots of a hallway.
Sky Central is such a stunning building, it’s a crying shame Sky News don’t utilise it. Even some kind of smaller, secondary area, (like the balcony in NBH), maybe overlooking the glass box, would help mix things up a little for explainer segments, etc.
It's a news channel and it does a good job of delivering the news. The jazzy shots and voice overs of nearly 20 years ago are long gone.
Sky Central is a working office building with no journalists and only a couple of producers based in it, and despite hybrid working, desk space and meeting rooms are at a severe premium. Logistically, having a permanent presentation area for whatever reason just isn't going to work any time soon.
I'm not quite sure how presenting an explainer from the atrium will make it any more interesting than normal anyway.
There’s a huge difference between wanting all out tacky voiceovers and flashing lights 2005 style, and wanting the odd variation on a shot of the hallway.
BIB - was simply an example of the type of thing they could try for a bit of variety.
Evidently, basing segments elsewhere makes little difference to the content, but this is a presentation forum after all, so it’s not unreasonable to suggest a news channel does a little more than strive to look as bland as possible by trying to inject a little creativity.
If you can’t suggest a news outlet should spice up its presentation a little on a presentation forum, where else can you…!
I agree. There does need to be some variety in their presentation. Great discussion and what a great idea to use the balcony across from the cube to create visual interest on television rather than a hallway with blue/red rectangles background. The average viewer would have no clue and likely wouldnt care they dont fully operate of out the SkyCentral location or that their newsroom is in another building. Like you, I agree its a good idea to use a variety of presentation points to keep the broadcasts visually fresh and dynamic. Thanks for your presentation opinion. Its appreciated and valued
