All 4
#1
Surprisingly I couldn't find a thread for All 4 (well, only one that was specifically about its name). If there is one and I've missed it then feel free to delete this, but otherwise this can be the general thread for discussing the platform.

The reason I was looking for an All 4 thread is because I wanted to ask, does anyone else have an issue with it where the subtitles get more and more out of sync after every ad break? This happens on both my laptop and TV and it's been going on for ages, so I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed by now (unless it's only happening to me, but I can't see why it would be).

Does anyone know what the logic behind Frasier having an ad break containing a Channel 4 trail even if you have All4+ is?

"For contractual reasons" says the v/o but its a bit odd

It does seem odd, unless they're playing a sponsorship bumper in that break.

It's usually just a trail for a Channel 4 or All4 thing, not usually a sponsorship bumper.

I've had it happen before on an American import I was watching via All4+. I believe the same happens on ITV Hub+ with Family Guy/American Dad. So must be a rights thing, but what I am not quite sure.

I noticed the same thing throughout the West Wing...

It appears that the majority of the US acquired content has to show trailers/ads with All4+, they're also in SD as well.

I would assume that like when 'pay TV' and 'free TV' rights were more of a thing, we now have AVOD (advertising-based VOD) and SVOD (subscription VOD) sets of rights and they're having to break the programme up with 'fake' ad breaks to ensure they're following the rules of the AVOD contract they likely have.

Anything that is recently added to All 4 never has subtitles. Take the new Derry Girls episode aired last night. I assume that was broadcast with subtitles. How come the subtitles aren't on All 4 yet? Same with yesterday's first-look Hollyoaks episode. I'd understand if there weren't subtitles in the morning but after it's been aired? That just seems lazy to me.

I find it unusual that subtitles aren't supported at all when viewing All4 on TV through a Chromecast device.  All4 also one of the few (only?) major British streaming apps not to have any presence on the Google TV app store either.

They're seemingly still blaming the RedBee incident.
