Al Jazeera's Arabic news channel is 25 years old on 1st November. The channel usually uses the date to relaunch, with the most recent overhaul being in 2016 when the channel turned 20.

The channel moved out of its current newsroom-based studio in May, broadcasting from a secondary studio instead. Now trailers have just started being aired, previewing a new look...

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the launch of the original Arabic-language Al Jazeera channel, and in two weeks time, the 15th anniversary of the launch of Al Jazeera English. Here are some promos celebrating the milestone, under the motto “A Unique Path”, featuring some of AJE’s foreign correspondents:

Al Jazeera Arabic also broadcast Sunday a documentary (in Arabic) showcasing the original station’s history.

Finally, today is the debut of the Arabic channel’s new look, so stay tuned…

I posted it in the Movers and Shakers thread as well, but thought definitely worth of some elaboration here. Kamahl is a top bloke and one of the best, most natural news anchors in existence today. His departure is a huge loss to AJE, having been there since pre-launch.

Best wishes on the new assignment, KS!

Kamahl is not only a fantastic journalist, but a thoroughly bloody nice bloke, and one of TV Live's biggest supporters.

I had the pleasure of interviewing him in January:

I'm on Andover Radio every Saturday afternoon from 4pm-6pm. Follow me on Twitter.

That is a big loss. He was always great (and also certainly someone like us who appreciated TV presentation.) I wonder what he's going to do next.

I think that just leaves Darren Jordon as the sole remaining original AJE anchor? There are still plenty of correspondents who have been there since day 1, but I don't think there's anyone else who's still at the anchor desk.

Sami Zeidan is still there (very first anchor ever on air at AJE) and Hazem Sika comes back to fill gaps from time to time.

But Kamahl will leave a huge gap at the channel. Consistently good on air and had that *click* with the audience. To use his own words at the sign off, he was an assured and trustworthy pair of hands, whatever the story.

AJE’s loss is.............someone’s gain!

There's speculation that Santamaria is heading back to New Zealand to become a presenter on TVNZ's Breakfast program:
