I spoke to someone who knows things. The special report was sent down the regular NBC East coast feed which would be dark at the time. Additionally it was on Channel 15 which is typically used for special reports that are optional or occur when parts of the network are local. WTVJ could have easily cut to either (as could the hub in Colorado).

It's on from 4-5pm ET, which is a different slot from Meet The Press Daily's final (1pm ET) and original (5pm ET) slots on MSNBC.

I assume the blocks more than an hour long are still loops of the first hour, but I haven't checked.

Alison Morris - NBC News Now's launch anchor who most recently has been on from 3-5pm ET - has left NBC News to do something wine-related, according to her Twitter account.

Telemundo 31 in Orlando (WTMO-CD) has a new home, well, sort of. Instead of selling the old Golf Channel facility (vacated in February last year, as part of NBC Sports' gradual centralization into its Stamford HQ), NBCUniversal has made the bold decision to reuse the facilities and give them a new lease of life, with the entire operation moving into the building. Studio AP, used by former morning show Morning Drive, has been reused as the main news studio. The set has been virtually unchanged, although they are some tweaks, including a new floor and reusing a former Golf Central desk as the main anchor desk.

Im sure most of us might enjoy this article on how Morning Breakfast programmes are fed to multiple time zones across the US. Particularly the TODAY programme and its use of the word LIVE.

However, the network started dropping the word “live” from the announce in some markets with the reasoning that shouldn’t be included in the open in markets that receive the show on tape delay, which typically includes the central and mountain time zones.

Does this mean that the show always starts live on the west coast? I didn't realise that was always the case.

Incidentally, I love how NewscastStudio knows its audience and isn't afraid to do an in-depth piece on the removal of one word from the voiceover on a title sequence.

I think the west coast gets a new opening segment. As it would be 3 hours old. BUt thats just a guess. I know the network nightly newscasts sometimes record a west coast edition if their has been changes since it went out in the East. So maybe the West get a new open at the top of the broadcast and then interviews and other segments and such play out as they were recorded for the Eastern broadcast. Just a guess on my part.
