Why is the station logo in the corner and not the middle? Really wish it was all a bit more consistent. The BBC could, and should, be looking slick.
Either it's placed where it would be if they also included "RADIO" in the logo at the bottom, or just a stylistic choice as it probably looks better there than just being centred underneath.

I'd say if you were to create "CD Inlay" square artwork from this image the "1D" circle kind of acts like a sticker of sorts in the corner. Like hype stickers on actual CDs that you buy and are in the corner. I actually like it.

I'm very sad to see things like the stylised "A" symbol (for Asian Network), the "bass clef"-esque "3", and the "4"-with-an-apostrophe (or quote mark?) being ditched in favour of utterly plain and boring numbers/letters in what is presumably just standard Reith Sans.

Bland-o-rama. ? (Or should that be Boulos-o-rama?! ?)

It feels as visually dull as Kwik Save's "No Frills" product range of the 1990s.

I guess the Asian Network logo template will be what the BBC locals will use with the letter of the city/country in the circle, and Radio XXX on the side

I always knew the License Fee being ditched would result in BBC porn channels

Yes. The focus is on the BBC, which is where it should be.

I do miss the previous BBC Local Radio logos, each of which had umpteen place names which gave a good indication of the station's overall broadcast area (particularly useful for the likes of Radio Solent, where it isn't as simple as e.g. a single whole county).

What they have since be replaced by is very inferior, to my taste. I presume that the current purple & pink colour palette will remain with the forthcoming Reith logos, rather than another total change, otherwise this will have been a phenomenally short-lived "look".

Hugh Dennis once made a joke on Mock The Week about BBC porn channel called "CBoobies".

Yes. The focus is on the BBC, which is where it should be.
Should it though? That gives the impression that all BBC services are interchangeable. When in reality, Radio 1 and Radio 4 are VERY different, as are BBC Three and BBC Four. Shouldn't the focus be on the entire service brand?

The premise of the 2021 BBC Television and Online rebrand and the 2022 Radio (and other services) rebrand are to make all BBC services (except internationally-recognised brands like CBeebies) more unified look (all in Reith) in preparation of their centenary year, similar to the last time the rebrand happened on 1997 (all in Gill Sans) as part of its 75th birthday. Even at the time, the BBC Radio rebrand in 1997 were felt more corporate than this year and felt lost their personality, due to saving colour cost for printing the logo.

At least for this year rebrand, we can still identify their personality with different BBC Radio station's colour (except for spinoff stations, which will follow their main station colour scheme as per rebrand sneak peak).

I'd somewhat disagree. I think it's important that the 'BBC' part is emphasised, as it reminds the listener/viewer that what they're listening to or watching is part of the BBC. Given the cuts and threats to the licence fee (and BBC in general) highlighting that service is part of the BBC to the public and politicians is arguably even more important than it used to be.

I agree completely. The emphasis of the rebrand is to focus attention on the BBC part. To be frank, that is where the core attention is needed - as we're seeing with the current environment around funding cuts. Looking to the future, I think there's a very cogent argument that - like Netflixs - there will be a need for a core offering. iPlayer and Sounds will be two important platforms in what increasingly is an on-demand approach. Therefore, for your stand out offerings, like Radio stations, you need that reference back to the BBC being the core.

Personally with the Radio logos I don't mind them being simpler, it's what they are presented with which will bring out the personality of each station. If each station has its own distinctive graphics that should suffice.

As others have said a big part of the rebrand has been elevate the BBC brand and also clearly differentiate core services with symbols from individual channels on these services which use consistent plain text logos paired with unique idents/graphics.

The fact these symbols have yet to launch is another matter.

Who cares if these new ones are bland? It's not like we're going to be seeing them much anyway, they're radio logos.
