BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - Keith - 24-09-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=41668 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:If it is happening it will be online rather than on a TV. As I've said several times, there is no way that it will appear on terrestrial or satellite next monthI guess adding the HD regions to iPlayer is more early preparation. Potentially in theory connected TVs could then watch regional news (albeit in SD), with a green or blue button "Watch local news" prompt for BBC1 HD. Currently with Freeview Play when on channel 1 the blue button gives an option to switch to 101, whilst green is for live restart. BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - scoobiesnacks - 24-09-2021 I still don't understand why the regional schedule placeholders for HD channels have appeared for 20th October.. if we're not getting HD channels from that actual date. That's publicly available information. Someone appears to have consciously picked that date in the BBC TV guide. Unless.. are they having a feed just for iPlayer that is a mix of SD regional news and HD rest? I could see the value in this but it seems a bit complicated. Right now it's a pain switching between England HD and regional news on iPlayer. Even more so than on a television, as you have to change from "England" to your region on iPlayer to get the local news. BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - Dogstar - 24-09-2021 Semi-interesting tweet and reply from Points West reporter Steve Knibbs on the matter https://twitter.com/Knibbsey/status/1441149336755183621?s=19 BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - scoobiesnacks - 24-09-2021 nwtv2003 post_id=41662 time= user_id=1028 Wrote:My local paper, the Warrington Guardian is now running an article saying BBC One North West HD will launch on 21st October. It’s the first time I’ve seen this reported in the wider press. The source all these stories ..I've seen a different local paper say the same thing.. appears to be the regional schedules published in the online BBC TV guides. The BBC TV guide explicitly says these regional HD channels "begin broadcasting from 21st October" (if you look at the listing for 20th of October, that wording is from that page) BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - Markymark - 24-09-2021 scoobiesnacks post_id=41733 time= user_id=2129 Wrote:nwtv2003 post_id=41662 time= user_id=1028 Wrote:My local paper, the Warrington Guardian is now running an article saying BBC One North West HD will launch on 21st October. It's all a circular/click bait/non fact checked/cut and paste thing taken from unsubstantiated internet gossip, typical of so called local journalism BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - Inspector Sands - 24-09-2021 Markymark post_id=41743 time= user_id=1078 Wrote:It's all a circular/click bait/non fact checked/cut and paste thing taken from unsubstantiated internet gossip, typical of so called local journalismI think so, there's been nothing official at all and the original source of this 'news' I think was the Clean Feed blog thing that suddenly gained a reputation from revealing the news of the new BBC logo. Thing is it might well be happening, but if it is it is only via online. The things required to do it on terrestrial or satellite just don't exist yet, however doing it online is a lot more straight forward..... it's an easy win BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - Markymark - 24-09-2021 Inspector Sands post_id=41805 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:Markymark post_id=41743 time= user_id=1078 Wrote:It's all a circular/click bait/non fact checked/cut and paste thing taken from unsubstantiated internet gossip, typical of so called local journalismI think so, there's been nothing official at all and the original source of this 'news' I think was the Clean Feed blog thing that suddenly gained a reputation from revealing the news of the new BBC logo. It might happen next month on line only for London, NW, SW, and East-West, but no other region will have a full HD workflow by then BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - mrwish - 24-09-2021 Markymark post_id=41716 time= user_id=1078 Wrote:agentsquash post_id=41686 time= user_id=1375 Wrote:Inspector Sands post_id=41668 time= user_id=1003 Wrote:If it is happening it will be online rather than on a TV. As I've said several times, there is no way that it will appear on terrestrial or satellite next month As an aside, I wonder how much extra satellite capacity they will actually need for this. There are an extra 14 HD “slots” needed for BBC One HD once the three nations and the existing BBC One HD (England) which can be repurposed for one of the 15 “English” regional versions are taken into account. The two current BBC DVB-S2 transponders have a capacity of 50.5Mbps and are only running 4 channels each as it stands. As a comparison, ITV are carrying 6 HD channels via transponders with an identical available capacity, and the DVB-T2 network carries 6 HD channels (plus 2 SD) within a stream that has 10Mbps less capacity. Considering the channels will have identical content most of the time, you wouldn’t be able to get the stat-muxing to work as well as it does on DTT, so presumably ITV’s 6 channels per transponder is an optimum balance. Two extra services per transponder leaves 10 regions to house, plus BBC Two NI, Alba and Parliament, which would be another two transponders and a bit (BBC Parliament doesn’t need mega bandwidth though so they’d squeeze it in no doubt). I wonder if we get into the territory of squishing some of the SD versions down into fewer transponders to make room, rather than renting extra space. SD-only legacy receivers seem less of an issue on satellite compared to terrestrial. BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - Spencer - 24-09-2021 I could see us ending up in the situation where on satellite we have the red screen of doom on a single BBC One SD feed advising viewers to switch to HD for regional programming. I doubt they'd do that. Isn't SD relatively cheap to transmit to send these days? And isn't BBC committed to parity across satellite and Freeview? But if the space for all the SD variants can be used to offset some of the cost of providing HD regions, it may be deemed worth it given how few non-HD satellite viewers there are. And there’s certainly not full parity between satellite and Freeview. BBC Two NI HD springs to mind. I think I'm right in saying that everything is HD now anyway. So when you watch a programme like South Today its actually gone through a double conversion - to HD out of the studio and back to SD into the encoder BBC One England Regions To Go HD In October - harshy - 26-09-2021 Markymark post_id=42987 time= user_id=1078 Wrote:wasn’t that on powervu at 27.5w many moons ago?harshy post_id=42742 time= user_id=970 Wrote:Is it time to start blindscanning 28.2e then  |
