It's not a new channel or service, it's just alternative junctions on an existing one. There's no seperate programmes so there's no point having it as a seperate stream on iPlayer - it can be seen using the existing 4 northern regional ones

RE: BBC One North - BcastCornwall - 14-07-2022

That's not as was originally planned then, It was to have provided a core network service with regional changes of content and schedule to that, such as moving the Rugby League show into primetime, hence my suspicion of a soft launch with the proposed content changes appearing later.

We will introduce a tailored BBC One across Yorkshire, North West and North East England, with regional continuity and marketing campaigns that help audiences discover our most relevant programming and services.

My reading of what they said means they have delivered. They haven't said there will be alternative programming and actually to have done that would have made BBC One less representative not more. The rest of the UK certainly shouldn't become devoid of northern voices.

Agreed things are getting a bit rude on here.

Absolutely. If there is one thing we absolutely do not need here, it’s a sense of rudeness. The announcer is far from the worst I’ve ever heard, and the insinuation that there were better people than him will not help him progress at all. So don’t like his announcing style for all I care, but please put it in a class very welcoming of this forum.

He sounds warm and friendly to me which is what people want when they’re slumped in the chair at night after a busy day, liked the window opening.

Regard the rudeness I’ve noticed some of my posts have garnered some snide responses.

Don't worry, it wasn't directed at you, it was directed at BBCMeridian, but due to the reply cutoff, it only showed you.

RE: BBC One North - GraemeT - 14-07-2022

I can’t understand this at all tbh.

I never listen to C4 or itv2 or anything else and think the reason I don’t like this channel is cause the announcer isn’t from my town.

I get the element of ability for different programming... I’m in Scotland, but if the announcements were prerecording from a network announcer into shows and over credits - I really couldn’t give a hoot.

As long as the announcer is clear and audible, and there’s a regional spread across the voices..... does any of this matter?

RE: BBC One North - Steve in Pudsey - 14-07-2022

The point of this exercise is not to provide more local voices. It's to trail different programmes in each half of the country.

To make that work, they need a different announcer so they can plug different programmes on the ECP and over idents, and to deal with the fact that the trailers on each feed might be a different length, so having a different announcer means the symbol and announcement can be a different length.

It's not just about the announcer, that's just the visual/audible face to this. Media Planning can be more targeted at how they serve promos and navigation to Northerners, or programmes that have more of an appeal to that region.

Because he doesn't sound like he's an announcer unlike all the good ones I mentioned and all of the announcers that BBC Television has had in the past, I just don't like the way he introduces programmes.
You're being extremely harsh. Everyone has their favourites but he's not 'terrible'.

RE: BBC One North - GraemeT - 14-07-2022

I’m marking the numbers up, but I’ve gotta be sure the vast majority of trails on bbc one Scotland are network trails.

There’s nothing particularly Scottish in the announcements before shows. Other than when introducing reporting Scotland etc.

Just don’t see why a national announcer couldn’t pre record these?

Reactivity maybe? With a channel like BBC One, timings are always changing due to the amount of live programmes/inserts etc... It's easier to update a live announcer than having to find someone to record and send it to playout in time (processing etc..) to make it to the next junction. Also the ability to tweak or change your script if you see that mood/news has changed

RE: BBC One North - Brekkie - 14-07-2022

Kind of seeing similar defences for this as we saw when the BBC Chameleon staggered approach was being questioned. Once again it feels like a rollout designed to satisfy the marketing team rather than the viewer.

RE: BBC One North - Andrew - 14-07-2022

Was the Question Time trail before the news cut off for everyone or just BBC One North viewers?

It was fine on BBC One HD (network).
