Plans for BBC One HD - Brekkie - 19-10-2021 Wonder if the red (or perhaps from tomorrow, purple) screen of death will now prompt people to view the regional news in HD on the iPlayer rather than switch to BBC1 in SD. I suspect not. I suspect the streams the BBC are providing for Sky Glass, are bespoke only for that platform Plans for BBC One HD - Brekkie - 19-10-2021 Markymark post_id=48497 time= user_id=1078 Wrote:But doesn't that go against the whole platform neutrality thing which has arguably been what has kept regional BBC1 HD off screens for so long?Brekkie post_id=48483 time= user_id=976 Wrote:Wonder if the red (or perhaps from tomorrow, purple) screen of death will now prompt people to view the regional news in HD on the iPlayer rather than switch to BBC1 in SD. Plans for BBC One HD - harshy - 19-10-2021 Look North looks better on iPlayer live well I think it’s upscaled ? Well, it's easy to work out whether or not it is, what resolution is your device reporting ? Well I watched it on laptop would it tell you there? I think it was SD as the bbc logo with the C not quite where it should be. Right click in the middle of the screen. I've done it for you, 960x540, so in the so called q(uarter)HD resolution. As Leeds are still using an SD infrastructure, then it's upscaled. However, you can't magic up native detail that doesn't exist (obvs) but it may well look better than watching SD on Freeview or Satellite Plans for BBC One HD - ukpetey - 19-10-2021 I for one can’t wait for the regions to transition to HD. Once the Six O’clock news finishes, the screen goes red and it’s either Newcastle with those bl**dy dogs barking, or the village hall dancers in County Durham and the equally irritating soundtrack which accompanies that. Either way they drive me to distraction and the mute button. If I never see/hear those again, I’ll be the happiest man alive! Plans for BBC One HD - p2004 - 19-10-2021 That doesn't appear to be guaranteed imo? It looks like they're giving a timeframe of the coming months for the upgrade to HD on BBC iPlayer, at which point BBC One Regions HD will happen Plans for BBC One HD - Rick - 19-10-2021 Brekkie post_id=48510 time= user_id=976 Wrote:But doesn't that go against the whole platform neutrality thing which has arguably been what has kept regional BBC1 HD off screens for so long?Platform neutrality hasn't existed for years with the BBC, there's no BBC TWO NI HD on satellite despite the other 3 nations having their HD services made avbailable. Plans for BBC One HD - BcastCornwall - 19-10-2021 The welcome but unexpected news of HD BBC Alba and BBC Parliament is for me today’s curveball. I can't actually find much about BBC platform neutrality other than old articles about BBC iPlayer but I'd have thought it would apply more to access to content as opposed to picture quality, and of course the regional news remains very much available in SD. I suppose an important distinction there is that virtually everyone with Freeview (or Freeview "Lite") can also get Freesat if they specifically want those channels, whereas Sky Glass is a subscription system |
