Is there a technical reason for this arrangement?
It changed some years ago from the sustaining feed carrying whatever was being transmitted in London to carrying the news channel. It was felt that London’s output wasn’t usually relevant as a filler, whereas the news channel output was better editorially, even if it didn’t necessarily finish when the opts ended.

Why not just have a server 'event' of a longish (5-6 seconds) black and silence followed by some trailers with a caption apologising for the loss of regional news superimposed over the top ? Would look a lot slicker than the current dog's breakfast
It also looks better if a region has to curtail a bulletin mid way (like when the fire alarm goes off)

That would require someone to maintain them on a regular basis. Whilst the current situation isn't perfect it doesn't create additional workload.

Perhaps, but you could argue the same about the 'This is BBC 2' overnight barker, and the BBC 1 HD England one 18:40 to 19:00 every day ?

Though if there's enough warning one region can replaced by another, and I think each has a designated second choice

Given the combined arrangement has been happening off and on for 18 months you'd think they'd sort out the empty red space to the right of the text - it looks dreadful.
Either the astons are burned onto the packages or when they're added onto BigTed they are using the wrong template selector.

I can't see any change as the picture over the last few weeks has looked like downscaled 1080i anyway. No different tonight either.
We know Southampton are finally getting a tech overhaul. I just want to see the lower thirds animate rather than simply fading on and off. It's been a bugbear of mine for ages! :lol:
