If I recall, the Christmas specials are filmed in October anyway, so they'll do those two episodes and the live special as part of the block of studio time they usually have at Pacific Quay.
This went out tonight, it felt like it was lacking something.
It was scheduled on RTÉ with a slot that was 5 minutes longer, so did they delay the second part for a commercial break? It also went out in the states I’m not sure where.
After the programme most of the cast appeared on The Late Late, in a live link up from The Nine set.

I don’t really get all the hatred towards Mrs Brown’s Boys. Personally it’s not a programme that appeals to me, but clearly a lot of people like it, so I’m happy for them to enjoy it. I’ll just watch something else.
Not a fan of the show and if people like it then fair enough, but for it to command such a slot on Christmas Day every year while ratings show that it should be moved at least is astonishing.

I switched to RTE One directly afterwards and there didn’t appear to be a delay, though i expected there would be one. The five minutes longer was to clear an ad break before the Late Late started. As you say virtually the entire cast appeared on the Late Late later (though O’Carroll did 90% of the talking and Jenny Gibney most of the rest). It wasn’t the first segment though, they did Padraig Harrington and Lyra first.
Having seen more BBC trailers than usual over the last week this seems to have had zero publicity on the channel itself. Would surely have made more sense tomorrow night in a post-Strictly slot.
Agree it should no longer command two prime slots on Christmas Day and New Years Day. It was a breath of fresh air when it first arrived but what worked for it initially now works against it. That said though the BBC haven't exactly got much else to put on in a post-10pm Christmas Day slot.

Agree, I do still enjoy the Christmas episodes but it just felt like something was missing tonight. Hard to put my finger on it. It didn’t really feel live, but not sure what else they could’ve done to amplify that.
But it won’t be going anywhere, as I believe they’re contracted into festive editions till 2026. I do wonder if they should do a full series every few years, maybe just to help move storylines along…
Yes, I've felt for a while they should ditch two years worth of specials in favour of one six part series. Indeed given they've not been able to tour as usual perhaps the BBC should at least have approach them this year to do a series between Halloween and Christmas, starting with the live episode and ending with the Christmas special, not necessarily on Christmas Day.
They could certainly do with more non-festive episodes because it seems to be the go to show to plug a gap in a Saturday schedule or post-9pm 30 minutes during the week.
Next Friday has an episode from Series 1 down at 9:30pm. It appears to be the 12th showing on BBC One since it first aired in 2011 (the previous was only September 2020). Looks like they work their way through the 3 main series every time they need to plug a gap, this is episode 4 & the first 3 have been shown this year in July & August.
Presumably All Round to Mrs Brown’s hasn’t been recommissioned, unless there wasn’t really a chance to film a series this year. If it has been axed perhaps that might mean more regular episodes which presumably are more lucrative.
I just don’t think there is enough left in the tank for another series. I know it’s always been a family affair and that has been a strength but it does seem like an excuse to get as many O’Carrol family members as possible into the show now and it suffered from the reduction of actors from outside the family mainly due to falling outs.

It wasn't live in the US, despite what Brendan said during the live show, but will be on Britbox shortly.
I recently bulk watched MBB on iPlayer and there's something there with the original three series and MBB Live from 2016, but you can see the decreasing quality as the Christmas specials went along and honestly thought the 2020 Christmas episodes would be the last.
The rot I think started when Rory Cowan who played the original Rory Brown left and then was replaced by an actor who I felt didn't quite grasp the character. It was a part made for Rory Cowan which couldn't be replaced. Then there was the pay dispute between the new Rory and his co-character husband Dino which led to them both leaving who were then written out completely and not even mentioned in the MBB Halloween special.
The better episodes had more physical humour, such as Brendan swinging off Christmas trees or hitting Grandad with a pan in addition to the double entendres, but as mentioned above, the MBB cast has become more of a closed shop than ever before with the only new addition was Blister (in 2020) who is another one of Brendan's grandchildren.
I watched it tonight and as many say it did lack something, I think the gags were a too predictable so they start off the gag and you knew before the finish what they were going to roughly do.
The one thing I did like was how they showed the audience and camera crews moving around the sets for the different scenes and also the gallery staff.
It would be good to get a regular series back because I think after the last 18 months of covid, this is a little light hearted comedy that is a little bit naughty but a little bit nice. However that could just be me
I believe that the contract between O’Carrol and the BBC (or British Broadcorping Castration as Mrs Brown would call it
) states that the Christmas episode must be shown on Christmas Day, or else the contract becomes null and void.
For this year at least, I think All Round To Mrs Browns just hasn’t been able to be filmed because of COVID, especially as an audience is really essential for that kind of show. Ironically, ARTMB has had more full series than the main show …
I agree that a full series would be better than the current Christmas arrangement. It would give more flexibility when coming up with episode plots, rather than having to centre it around Christmas year after year. I’ve been watching some of S1-3 recently and they’re absolutely hilarious, whereas recent episodes just have something missing.
